About

A Modern Twist on Age-Old Crafts

My story begins with wanting to share.

Share the things I love, the beauty I see & the objects I'm inspired to create.
To sit at a spinning wheel is to sit among those from a bygone era, I imagine how they looked, what they created & what they dreamed of.
When I turn the hand-crank of my circa 1880's sewing machine, I wonder what fabrics have passed under the foot & what they became.

In my studio today, I'm planning ahead for the next project, what raw materials will I choose? What colours will I blend together in the dye pot? Will I spin it or felt it?

Or will I grab my sewing box & head on over to my fabric stash, the shelves groaning under the weight of a myriad of textiles, some big, some small, every one interesting.

I find it amazing to think, I've managed to teach myself some of the skills of spinning, felting & embroidery in little under a year.
I really look forward to how much more I can increase my knowledge & skills & pay homage to those craftspeople of old by keeping these traditions alive with a new twist.

I began my love of textiles as a young child, where on holiday there always seemed to be rolling fields of sheep everywhere. I was always hunting for bits of wool on the fences & gates- completely fascinated by the sight & texture of it.

Wishing you a very warm welcome to Reflections in Felt.

I make all of my items by hand, the felted items are either wet or needle felted, the rolags are made using a pair of hand carders & my yarns are all spun by hand.
I get a real buzz out of creating beautiful & unusual items, often inspired by the natural world around me, sometimes inspired by a colour or an idea. I have recently started spinning & become completely addicted to this ancient craft, it's amazing sitting at my wheel knowing how many others have done so in times gone by.
I always sell things that I would be delighted to use myself, in fact it's often tempting to keep hold of an item because I love it so much!

Thank you very much for stopping by & I hope you find something you're looking for.
