Tenía 16 años cuando visité un mercado de antigüedades y compré mi primer tesoro vintage: un cenicero de latón con borde de filigrana y representación de bolos en el centro. Provenía de un complejo teatral y recreativo anterior a la Segunda Guerra Mundial en Silesia.
Años más tarde, ahora en Ontario, Canadá, sigo buscando tesoros. Llenan mi hogar, y mientras que algunos de ellos están cerca de mi corazón y se disfrutan todos los días, otros se ofrecen a la venta en Relive Retro.
Mis clientes compran vintage por diferentes razones. Para algunos comprar vintage es éticamente responsable, ya que la reutilización reduce el impacto en nuestro medio ambiente. Otros aprecian una mejor artesanía y calidad. A algunos les gusta la ropa vintage, porque es única y ofrece la oportunidad de destacarse entre la multitud, mientras que otros aprecian los artículos para el hogar extravagantes, kitsch o elegantes. I was 16 when I visited an antique market and purchased my first vintage treasure – a brass ashtray with filigree edge and depiction of bowling pins in the centre. It came from a pre-WWII theatre and recreation complex in Silesia.
Years later, now in Ontario, Canada, I still search for treasures. They fill my home, and while some of them are close to my heart and enjoyed every day, others are offered for sale at Relive Retro.
My customers buy vintage for different reasons. For some purchasing vintage is ethically responsible, as reusing reduces impact on our environment. Others appreciate better craftsmanship and quality. Some like vintage clothing, because it is unique and offers an opportunity to stand out from the crowd, while others appreciate quirky, kitschy, or elegant home goods. Finally, people buy vintage, because it reminds them of better days.
When shopping for vintage treasures I look for things that are unique. I buy what appeals to me and makes me feel something. I believe I cannot sell what I do not relish; I cannot describe effectively what does not bring me joy.
