Renditions Design - Finally Here!

After 31 years of working, I retired and now it is finally time for me to enjoy my sewing. I plan to never let a day pass without using my sewing machine!
I spent many years in our County 4H program teaching children to sew and also having them learn various forms of arts and crafts. It was a blast but time to close that portion of my life. So this is how Renditions Design came about:

My husband and I love Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. We visit there several times a year for the last ten years.
We have dressed in period clothing each year for the November Remembrance Day parade, attended Balls, and dressed up sometimes in the summer too (if it's not too steamy). Seeing all of the lovely period dresses and men's clothing is just a wonderful sight.
This stimulated my creativity and imagination. I started making my own dresses and underpinnings and those for my daughter too. Then my husband wanted some shirts and pants. I just could not stop sewing all of the great period clothing. I started sewing period outfits for children, ladies drawers and chemises and all of these pieces of clothing started filling my sewing room closet.

I have to admit a love of fabric. A favorite axiom is - "if you like it, buy a yard. If you love it, buy three yards!" Not only that, I love ladies vintage clothing. I began a collection of items for ladies and teens that has grown exponentially. Again, another closet full to bursting.

It so happened that I attended a local craft fair and met up with one of my 4H friends. She was selling her handmade jewelry and scarves. She was the first person to tell me about ETSY. I went home, excitedly checked it out, made a list of items to sell, opened my shop and started posting those items right away. A year later I am writing this little story and have made over a hundred pieces of clothing to date.

Each piece that I make is painstakingly laid out and assembled by myself. Let me tell you how I agonize about trimmings. It sometimes takes me hours to decide on dress trimmings. When I am making a custom item for you, I check and re-check your specifications to make sure it will be right.

If I happen to make a mistake, I will take the item back and either fix it or refund your money. I have a lot of pride in my shop and my work and I want to make sure that each customer is happy with their purchase.

I am a retired Computer Programmer/Analyst who has traded that career for one of sewing and designing. Also formally a 4H Leader in a Sewing, Arts and Crafts Club for many years, it was my pleasure to instruct my members how to sew. I am now enjoying myself fully every day adding to my Civil War clothing and vintage clothing shop. Hope you enjoy it!

Renditions Design is about a love of clothing.
Civil War clothing is what I create.
Vintage clothing is what I collect.
It gives me immense pleasure and satisfaction to share my clothing with you.
I opened on ETSY January of 2012 and I love everything about it.
I have been sewing for twenty years. Most of that time was spent teaching girls to sew in our local 4-H club.
I have since retired from 4-H and also have retired from my job of 31 years as a Computer Programmer and now I can say I am living my dream of sewing EVERY SINGLE DAY!! Caps very important in that last sentence.

Thanks so much for stopping by and taking a look at my shop.

Additional policies and FAQs
CONDITION fof Vintage Items
I list condition notes with every VINTAGE item for sale in my shop. Mint is a term rarely used. It means perfect and unworn. Excellent is a condition that I strive to have for each items. With this, there may be very subtle signs of wear, and no holes or spots. You will note that when an item is excellent but for a minor flaw, the flaw will be stated. Occasionally I will list an item with flaws that I feel is worthwhile, and this will be graded very good with the flaws stated. The older the piece the more likely I am to offer it with some flaws as these older items are getting so hard to come by and have value even if not perfect.

I measure all the garments flat and give actual measurements, no ease included. Please remember, ease is that wonderful little bit of room that makes a garment wearable, especially in the bust and hips. Very few garments outside of Spandex, strapless dresses and corsets should fit skin tight. So be sure to allow for at least an 1" of ease in the bust and 2" in the hips. Some people measure a garment they already wear and love the fit of to get a sense of what amount of ease is desirable.
