About

The story behind my little treasure chest of loveliness.....

Initially I opened RiasanBoutique because I found some old stock from when I had my own business ten years ago. I designed and made clothes and accessories under the ria’san label. I thought I could open a shop to try and sell this stock but it only inspired me to start creating beautiful things again.......
I have the spent the last six years juggling two boys and a part time teaching job, which frustratingly left very little time to focus on developing new products for my shop. Now my youngest son is four years old, chunks of time are opening up to me and it seems there is a light at the end of the tunnel! Now my Etsy empire can truly begin!

My home and studio is near Reading in the UK. When my youngest son was old enough to sleep in a bed, I moved him in to my eldest son’s bedroom and they started sharing (which they absolutely love!) As the cot moved out of his nursey, my sewing machine moved in and I am slowly personalising this room to create an amazing studio space, which is the lightest, sunniest, warmest place to be.

I source my supplies from all over the world. I have no hard and fast rule on this except it must catch my eye and it must inspire me! I am a bit like a magpie but rather than shiny things, I collect beautiful fabrics, trimmings and buttons!

I work independently at the moment and have to manage my time effectively. I have many roles and although nobody helps me directly, I have a wonderful husband who supports me 100% in anyway I ask.

My brand is small scale, making beautiful things by only me and if all it becomes is a hobby that occasionally makes money, that is fine. If it grows in to something more I will be delighted and will work even harder than I do now!
This is my new baby, I love doing this and will nurture it.....
I have a hand in everything I do and I love little details and small surprises. I want my customers to feel special and own something which is much more unique than their regular shopping experience.
I like to communicate with my customers and keep them up to date about their order. My products are beautifully packaged in silver tissue paper and a silver organza bag (like a gift to yourself because everybody deserves to treat themselves once in a while!)

My inspiration comes from all over......I am a very visual person and all sorts of images will catch my eye and I will mentally start developing ideas. Being a textiles teacher means I am constantly guiding students’ ideas and helping them to realise their designs. I develop and teach a wide range of decorative techniques through sampling and often I create something which I feel can be further developed. Fabrics and texture are also a key inspiration for me and I love nothing more than sourcing a challenge….e.g turning something un-useable in to an amazing product. For example, I was once commissioned to make a wedding dress out of a very old woven sari which had holes and stains all over it. I accepted the challenge because the fabric had a beautiful woven jacquard pattern and amazing colours which ranged from pale silver to darkest charcoal, with highlights of a bright red. The end result was fabulous and the bride looked amazing. It felt so good to breathe new life in to that old battered sari!

Frequently asked questions

I would like to buy a product from you but can not see my size....

Please do contact me providing details of the product and I will do my best to help you. Note that some products maybe limited edition and know that I do not hold huge stocks of fabrics, so there could be extra time implications.

What sizes do you do?

My general size range is UK size 8, 10, 12 and 14. You can contact me about making a custom order to fit you though.

Can custom orders be returned?

If the product is from my general size range, then yes, assuming it is returned in new condition so that it can be resold.

If the product is personal to you e.g based on your size and has been made especially to fit you, then no, because this could not be resold. Please note, if there is an issue with the fit, please contact me so I can correct this.
