Ricquel Monique's aim is to work towards less waste, and have a more minimalistic outlook on life. "Quantity not Quality", and "Less is More" have become two of my favorite sayings.

~ Clothing and Accessories
They are constructed, or up-cycled, and are intended to be, every one, a wonderful piece that will last and be treasured. I find, or create pieces that will hopefully stay around for an age, rather than be worn for a moment and discarded the next.

~ Home Decor
These items are also either constructed by my own hands or treasures that I have discovered discarded and have repaired or made more beautiful. In an effort once again to avoid waste and to make use of what is already before us up-cycling has changed from a hobby to sharing it with the rest of the world. Hopefully I can inspire others to also choose up-cycling rather than always purchasing everything new.

About

Back to Basics

I live on a little farm in southern Missouri, a few miles from the nearest town. It's quiet, green, and lovely here. I spend my days either sewing, working on an up-cycling project, working in my herb garden next to the bee hives, or concocting a new recipe for a lotion or cosmetics made from natural sources. I believe that we have everything we need to thrive and enjoy life in this world right at our fingertips, the trouble is, we often look to sources other than nature to acquire happiness.

We’re constantly inundated with advertisements telling us what to buy and what to do to be happy in this life. We are encouraged to buy new things all of the time. We live in a disposable society, it promotes waste and we are continually told we must look a certain way to be happy. This sort of thinking is overwhelming and if you had looked in my bathroom cupboard and my closet a year or two ago you would have seen all manner of hair products, lotions, make-up and clothing of every style and color imaginable. Lotions that claimed to diminish stretch marks, or cellulite. Make-up that I slathered over my face to hide blemishes. Clothes similar to those I had seen celebrities wear. All the things I had been convinced would make me beautiful. The trouble was, it may have for a moment, but it didn't last.

My aim, in life and in running this shop is to encourage others out there to not be overwhelmed by the commercialism that rules this country, you will constantly be trying to catch up. I’m not saying clothing, cosmetics, lotions, and such have no place, not at all. I sell all of those here, because these specific things I sell here are those that make me feel pretty in my own skin, comfortable and beautiful clothes to wear that truly express who I am, and decorations that cheer up my living space.

In addition to finding the things that improve my day to day life, I also adopted a more minimalistic thinking and de-cluttered my life. Now I have less to clutter my physical space, as well as my headspace and it had done wonders for my health and so has made me feel more beautiful. I have realized the benefits of cutting down to the basics, and utilizing what is right in front of me, whether it be modifying a dress to suit my current style, up-cycling a discarded piece of furniture, working in my herb garden, or making my lotions from natural oils and butters. I believe it is important to de-clutter your life and your brain, get back to the basics, and use what is right in front of you.

Ricquel Monique’s goal is to reduce waste, rid the world of synthetic ingredients and use only natural ingredients to better protect our environment and all living things, and to live life to the fullest, healthy, happy and whole. Feeling beautiful is more important than looking so, but it seems to me, that if you feel beautiful, that is what others will see.
