About

My Passion To Create

What a long road it's been! I have always been a creative person and always had the drive to do something unique with my life. There is no end to the materials and mediums I explore with and no shortage of ideas! After a few years of selling my work, I have refined it for the sake of the shop, but I still continue to create in many different areas.

Nests And Burrows became a business about two years after I was laid off from my 9 to 5er. I was 7 months pregnant with my first child when let go from my job and I panicked! How was I going to do this? My boyfriend at the time and father of my child, later to become my husband, and I decided it was a blessing in disguise and that we would try to keep me home as long as possible. I am not the kind to sit still though!! I have to feel like I am being productive, doing something for myself and also something that brightens the world a little.

Six months after I had my son, I found out I was three months pregnant with my daughter. Wow! I cried because I thought I wasn't ready for a second yet. But as we do in life, I rose to the occasion. The news sunk in and I prepared. The first year of having two children at such young ages was extremely difficult. I was in the house by myself the majority of the time, juggling two children and not getting to much else besides some cooking and cleaning.

After some time though, I needed something to put my focus into for myself and myself alone. That is how my art came back to the forefront. After a long time of simply being mom and caretaker of family and home, I thought all the creativity had left my body and soul. Even if I carved out time to work on a project, for the life of me, I couldn't think of what to make. This was so frustrating to me and I didn't know how to fix it.

How did I fix it? I just did. I pulled out any and all craft and art supplies I could find in the house and I started messing around. The more I started using this part of my brain, the more the creativity started to flow. I was all over the map making all kinds of things. There was no cohesion to anything!! It didn't matter though. I was back in the game of making awesome art and creating one of a kind pieces, even if I had no idea what to do with them.

I started my Etsy shops but this is not an easy process. Making a successful shop goes far beyond just making something and listing it. There is so much more that goes into the process and I am still learning how to best get my work seen. Throughout raising my kids and making it through all the ups and downs life would bring me, I have found my niche. I will continue to make all kinds of different, mixed up creative things, but I have found my focus.

My focus is nature. I have always had a love for nature, animals and the environment as a whole, but until just over two years ago, I never saw it for what it was... ART. Nature is ART! Mother Nature is the ultimate creator. When I take a walk in the woods, I am rejuvenated and inspired. The life and creativity is reborn in me each time. The more I create, the more ideas I have.

I don't make art. I simply accentuate what Mother Nature has already made. The colors, patterns and textures are there, I just bring them out it whatever way strikes me. I never cut something down just to make my art. I find what has fallen, lift it up, clean it off and give it a new life. When I make each piece in my shop, I am feeling happy, excited, powerful, soulful and complete. I always create when I am in this state and no other, because I want my buyers to feel this energy when they look at and hang my art in their space.

What I do has transitioned as I have walked through life and become so much more than just making art. It is life. It is peace. It is getting in touch with something more. We live in a cookie cutter world and it is pretty sad to me. I don't want to walk into my neighbors home and see the exact same décor as I have. I want something special and unique that reflects me and how I live. I promote sustainable, reusable, responsible and artistic living.

There is so much more to me and my shop. So much so I could probably turn this into a book. For now though, I think I said enough!! I hope this has given you an insight into my art and my shop. I love community. I love connecting with people. So if there is anything else you want to know, please feel free to email me. I hope you have a spirited and soulful day and that you come visit here often.

You can also find me here. I told you I don't sit still! Check out the world that is me and the future I am trying to build:

After a couple of years on Etsy, I have really started to refine what my shop is all about. Though my interests are broad, I have found my calling in nature. To me, it is art. I am just accentuating it to make you something beautiful for your space.

    Inspiration

My 4 year old opens my eyes to new perspectives every day! There is no one better to be off on a nature hunt with. I hope I can show him how to express himself and follow his dreams. My children are the reason I work so hard doing this thing I love.

  • Ava

    Motivation

My 3 year old baby girl challenges me every day and is a born creator. She is spunky & silly yet too smart for my own good! I want to show my kids how to blaze their own trail & follow their heart even when it is tough. She keeps me pushing forward.

Payment
Payments may be made through Paypal or here on Etsy. If you have any questions, please contact me.
Shipping
Since Etsy does not offer calculated shipping based on buyers locations yet, I have to cover shipping to CA and Washington (farther destinations) as well as local when setting a fixed shipping price. Should you overpay for shipping, I will refund you the difference. Insurance is optional and at buyers expense. Please contact me with any specific questions or for an exact quote based on your location.
Refunds and Exchanges
If you receive your item and are unhappy, please let me know. I am willing to refund your purchase but you will be responsible for the cost of return shipping. I will refund your purchase price when the item is returned in the exact condition it was sent out in. I strongly encourage you to ask questions and request more pictures if necessary before you purchase so you know exactly what you are getting. As stated in the shipping policy, insurance is optional. If your item does not arrive to you or if it is damaged in the mail, those issues will have to be addressed with the Post Office. I will provide you with the tracking number to take to your local office. I will certainly do my part to help you address any issues on my end as well. It all comes down to the following. I want you to be happy! I will do everything to make sure this is the case : )
Additional policies and FAQs
Any item you see that I have created, please contact me if you want a similar item in different colors or with any special features. I can create most anything. As a general rule, I do not make the exact same thing twice unless it is requested by the same person who purchased the original. I don't want to walk into someone's home and see the exact same piece I have, so everything I create is a one of a kind piece. If you purchase something I have created, know that I will not do that exact same piece for anyone else. Contact me if you have a piece you would like me to alter, paint or refinish. Or if you have curtains that you love in your living room and would like your light switch and outlet covers to match, I can do that for you. You get the idea! Let me know if there is something you are looking for and I may be able to create it.
