3D Printing and Wedding Crafts
WHY WE DO IT
First, being a Geek is Cool. It means being passionate about expression, and loving whatever dom you're in because you can't help it. We're so passionate about games and stories in them that we've actually chosen Zelda as our wedding theme(we'll be married this fall!) This means a lot of DIY and customization between now and then, and for most of those crafts it'll be just as easy to make a dozen as it will be to make two, and we know that there are others out there, *at least* as awesome as we are. So we figure if we make extras, we should probably share.
We're also pretty passionate about the future, and one very significant portion of it is already here: Replicators. Sure they aren't as fancy, and they can't make a chocolate sundae yet(sorry Diana), but 3D printers are nothing if not rudimentary replicators. And we want to help them spread. So we're helping make models that will make them more useful to others, and we're helping people figure out how they could use one of their own.
Sadly, 3D printing still requires a bit of skill and some major up front investment($1300 printer, $50+ tools, $120+ filament), and we know that some people aren't ready for that commitment, but still want to be able to buy the cool things(bulbasaur planter, anyone?) that can be made on a printer at reasonable prices. So if you have your own printer, all of the models in our store are available for you to print yourself, link to the thingiverse files is always included in the listing...and if you don't, well, let us know what you want to have printed. We'll get it worked out. :)
HOW IT'S DONE
The crafts themselves vary, but we'll be doing blog posts about each of them for anyone who wants to diy it or really make it their own. Just see the listing, links will be included.
As for the printing, the workflow is pretty simple. Find/Make a model, open it in either RepG or Simplify3D, generate gcode, save to SD Card, put in printer, load correct filament and hit print. Once it's printed we have a variety of post processing techniques, depending on the item. They vary from support removal to filling holes. We'll also have a series of blog posts on getting started 3D printing in the very near future.
