So the love of my life says to me...
One night, when I was sitting at my desk having finished a chainmaille rosary I had made for my sister and was making sure everything was perfect, the man who is the love of my life looks over my shoulder and goes “Damn, I’d buy that.” A comment which was out of left field at the time, and I thought was quite charming. But, of course, this conversation lead to others where I talked about my youth modeling chainmaille and learning how to weave it in the DFW area. In those talks I remembered how much I loved it and how much I love wearing it.
Given I have a metal allergy chainmaille jewelry is often the safest bet for me as many mailers make things out of biocompatible (hypoallergenic) materials. Stainless steel, titanium and even jewelry grade aluminum have no lead or nickel in them to cause a reaction. It was then I realized that I was squandering a skill I worked really hard to learn, and that I was not alone in my need for jewelry that was hypoallergenic. And that is how it all started.
Owner, Maker, Designer
I work mostly in stainless steel because I have a metal allergy. I know how frustrating it is to have jewelry I can wear that won't have me reacting badly. My goal is to use all biocompatible materials in all my work such as, stainless steel, titanium, and high grade aluminum alloys.
Stainless steel is a metal that has been used for a long time by companies for many purposes like in the fabrication of kitchen appliances it is also used for watches and now for jewelry. It is often chosen by many manufacturers because it is a very strong, solid and durable metal that will not rust. For these same reasons, stainless steel is now popular in the making of jewelry, other fashion accessories, and some forms of art work. It will not tarnish or discolor your skin. Cleans easy in soapy water. It does not contain any cobalt that oxidizes or any nickel that would cause allergy. Stainless steel is the most biocompatible (hypoallergenic) element known to man and should not irritate even the most sensitive skin.
Titanium is perfect for those who have sensitive skin because it is nickel free and won't provoke allergies. The most common ailment arising from contact with nickel or its compounds is an allergic dermatitis known as "nickel itch" which usually occurs when the skin is moist. Titanium is judged to be completely inert and immune to corrosion by all body fluids and tissue, and is thus wholly bio-compatible. These hypoallergenic qualities, plus its strength-to-weight ratio, are the reasons titanium is used for medical implants such as hip joint replacements, and why there is a growing trend to make jewelry and other accessories.
