About

Ritas Closet offers high quality affordable clothing for all popular 18 inch girl and 15 inch baby dolls and Build A Bear.

Hi, I'm Ida, the face and hardworking hands behind Rita's Closet for Dolls! I started Rita's Closet in 2010 after making 18 inch doll clothing for a friend's granddaughter, but I've been making doll clothing, including designing my own patterns since I was 7. In my teens I competed in a local bank's Christmas Dress-A-Doll event which solicited handmade doll clothing for distribution by the Salvation Army. I was fortunate to win several years in both the Under 14 and Adult categories.

I love creating doll/bear clothing because I adore creating miniature outfits with heirloom sewing techniques such as hand embroidery and English smocking. Rita's Closet allows me to practice these crafts without my tiny apartment becoming completely overrun with doll clothing! And I love to think about the hours of delightful, imaginative play children can have with the products I make. Everything is made with playability and durability in mind so that they will last for generations to come.

I start most orders with a rough idea for an outfit or a customer's special request. I locate or create (or modify) a pattern which will work, then sew it up using a standard household Singer machine and as much hand sewing as I can do to get just the right look and many special little details. The decorating and adding details are the most fun parts of any project... except for maybe when I hear back from a satisfied customer that their child fell in love with the items.

I ship everything by USPS Priority Mail unless otherwise requested by the customer, usually within 2-3 days of receiving payment for the order. I strive to provide the best possible customer service and a delightful shopping experience. Enjoy looking around my shop and please feel free to send me a message with any questions you may have. And, if you do order, be sure to check your package for an extra little surprise or two!

Welcome to Rita's Closet for Dolls (and other things!) My primary goal is making heirloom quality doll clothing at affordable prices. I firmly believe that dolls and teddy bears are a gateway to imaginative play for children, boys and girls alike. Opportunities for any type of imaginative play are becoming more limited as children need to be supervised more closely for their own safety and as our society becomes more technologically advanced. While video games have their place in the playroom, they do not typically offer the same avenues for imagination and role play that dolls/stuffies do.

Typically, I ask that all customers use Paypal or Etsy direct checkout for their purchases. If, however, you cannot do that for some reason, please convo me, and we can work out other arrangements.
Shipping
As of 3/1/2012, all Rita's Closet orders will be shipped USPS Priority Mail, usually within 48 hours of order placement. If you would prefer a slower, less expensive shipping method, please convo me. Please be aware that shipping methods other than Priority Mail will take longer for processing. If you choose First Class mail, be aware that there is no insurance or tracking available and you are shipping at your own risk. I regret that Rita's Closet will be unable to refund or replace any packages lost or damaged by USPS if you choose to ship without insurance.
Refunds and Exchanges
I will accept returns provided items are sent back in the condition they were shipped to you. Although I strive for the highest quality, sometimes threads do break or fasteners come off. If you are not completely satisfied with the items you receive, convo me so we can work something out that is mutually satisfactory. I will repair, replace, or refund any item that fails due to workmanship issues.
Additional policies and FAQs
I will be happy to accept custom orders as my work flow permits. Sometimes children are involved in special events (such as weddings, 1st Communion, school plays, etc.) where you'd like a copy of the outfit the child wore. Or, sometimes there's something like a favorite pair of pyjamas that you'd like me to reproduce. In order to do this I will need you to provide several good photos of the outfit, and fabric or fabric swatches. Prices for these outfits will vary; however, I will try to keep the final cost as low as possible. If you are interested, please contact me for more details. Please note I cannot make exact duplicates of any items in the American Girl catalog due to trademark/ copyright issues.
