Lovely stone and sterling combination. The patina of the silver complimented the color of the stone. Fast shipper and great communications.

About

We collect unique and rare rocks and gemstones, and turn them into beautiful jewelry.

Our stone pendants and faceted gemstones represent 40 years of rock collecting from excursions to Australia, Mexico and all over the United States. Even in our home state of Colorado, we hunt for smoky quartz crystals, topaz, amazonite, and aquamarine, to name some. We enjoy rocks and the beautiful things created in the earth, by nature. Wanting to share this beauty with others sparked the motivation to turn rocks into jewelry. Our inspiration comes from the stunning designs and colors that are different in every rock or specimen that we find.

During the warmer months (when we're not rock hunting), Jim is in the workshop running saws that cut slices or slabs of rock and cut the outer perimeter for the start of a pendant. From there, he uses the cabochon machine and puts each stone through a 6-7 step process of shaping and polishing on the diamond wheels to create beautifully crafted pendants. The pendants are cut and shaped in a way that best reflects the colors and design of the rock. Some pendants end up as free-form, abstract pieces of art. Other pendants are more common shapes like ovals, hearts, and squares.

In the winter months Jim works inside, sitting for hours at the faceting machine creating custom, hand faceted gemstones that beautifully reflect the light and quality of the particular gemstone material.

After Jim sets the stones and gemstones or attaches the bails, Mary gets to play. Mary is truly inspired by the colors in the rocks. Using a variety of media, from chains, stone and metal beads to silversmithing, Mary has a knack for combining materials that enhance and compliment the colors in the stone or gemstone. The end result can be anything from a stunning faceted gemstone necklace that would be perfect for a wedding or a romantic night on the town, to earthy jewelry for the young woman who wants to embellish her individualistic style or set her own dynamic trend.

The other materials that make up the jewelry come from a plethora of sources, to name some: Halstead, Rio Grande, Topako Mercantile, and various merchants at gem and bead shows.
_____________
Just a note about the gemstones that are synthetic (meaning lab grown). We will clearly mention 'synthetic' or 'silicate' in our product descriptions, where it applies. "A synthetic gem material is one that is made in a laboratory, but which shares virtually all chemical, optical, and physical characteristics of its natural mineral counterpart..." (http://www.gia.edu/gem-synthetic). In other words, synthetic gems provide a more affordable means of owning an emerald or sapphire, for example, yet without the inclusions or clouds that are often in the mined minerals. They are perfect gemstones!
_____________
Each rock and gemstone truly has its own personality, from beginning to the end product. Some pendants beg for the simplicity of being hung from a chain. Others cry out to be included in an artistic piece of jewelry. No two pieces are alike.

We enjoy every step of the process, from rock hunting to creating the original pieces of jewelry. We strive to make unique jewelry that you will enjoy wearing and we truly enjoy sharing this craft with others who appreciate the beauty of natural stones!

Additional policies and FAQs
We are slightly restricted on offering to do custom orders. Cabochons and stone pendants are cut during warmer months and faceted gemstones are cut during colder months. Both are based on the stones/gemstone rough that we have on hand since the majority of material we have is found by us and rock hunting is generally a summer activity. Please don't let this discourage you from inquiring about a custom order. We may already have what you'd like and it never hurts to ask.
