Welcome to Rock and Sea Designs!

Rock and Sea represents my love of islands, the ocean, the mountains, trees, flowers, and everything in between. I spent a lot of time in South Florida as a child, and the beach felt like a second home. My husband and I have enjoyed traveling the Caribbean over the years, and once we discovered St. John, USVI, we knew we had found “our place” that we would visit again and again. I’m so inspired by its natural untouched beauty, the brilliant colors of the turquoise water, the reefs, and the plants and wildlife. My experiences, memories and photos of this island are a big influence on my designs. I also find many design ideas right around my home in beautiful Atlanta, GA. Gardening and being around nature are two of my favorite things.

I set my sights on jewelry design at a young age. As a little girl growing up in Connecticut, I spent summers visiting Crystal Lake in Ellington, CT with my grandparents. Crystal Lake was formerly known as “Ruby Lake” because of the prevalence of Garnets in the surrounding area. When I wasn’t practically living in the water, I was perched at the water’s edge meticulously picking through gray rocks embedded with beautiful, sparkling Garnets as my amused grandmother kept watch nearby. I used small stones to carefully chip away the soft rock to extract the red treasures, and would present the gems to my grandmother with great delight.

In high school, I discovered my love of beading, and also took metalsmithing jewelry classes at my school, which really awakened my love for creating beautiful things by hand. During my college years, the artsy town of Ithaca, NY provided a wonderful creative outlet. In my spare time, I made wire wrapped gem necklaces, and sold them at local shops.

After college, my video career took hold, and I spend many years in corporate video and event production. I still made jewelry occasionally, but didn’t have a lot of extra time to dedicate to it. After leaving my corporate job at the end of 2015, I decided it was the perfect opportunity to reignite my jewelry passion, and Rock and Sea was born.

When people wear a piece of my jewelry, I hope that they feel as beautiful and as special as the moment and the visuals that inspired it.
