About

How Rockshore Accessories began!

Hi guys! Here’s a quick run through of my story and how I started Rockshore Accessories!

It started as a hobby back in 2015 alongside my full time job as an assistant manager in a retail store. I had always wanted to own my own shop which, in my imagination, was a bricks and mortar shop on a high street. I could never see my dream actually becoming a reality due to the high overheads of running a high street shop nowadays. On my days off from work I started selling handmade hair accessories and necklaces at a couple of boot sales, hoping this would satisfy my urge to sell my own products. However it wasn’t really the right platform for handmade products and I ended up being pretty unsuccessful, often spending more on the pitch than I actually made in the entire day. Oddly this only increased my desire to own a ‘proper shop’.

Then one day a friend mentioned Etsy to me, I was quite sceptical because when I thought of my ‘dream shop’ I imagined myself selling face to face with customers, in store full of my products displayed on shabby chic style shelves and hangers, definitely not an online store. But thankfully, I gave it a try!

It was honestly the best thing I’ve ever done, my first sale was the most exciting moment ever and gave me the motivation to get some more products up for sale. After a couple of weeks I was getting a sale most days and spending my evenings after work making new products to list. Eventually it got to the point where I needed more time to complete my orders and the evenings after work just weren’t long enough to get it all done. That’s when I knew I had a decision to make, stop working on Etsy and carry on with my safe, reasonably well paid day job, OR risk it all and go full time into my Etsy store. I decided to be brave and take the risk! So here I am, 2 years on, still working on my little shop! It’s evolved a lot since the early days and I’m sure it will continue to in the future. All I know is I’m so glad that I took the risk and went for it!
