This artists work is completely engaging-a joy to own any piece of work
An endless fascination with the world of wild creatures
Welcome to Rommany.
Here you'll find animal models, drypoints and engraved prints, etchings and mixed-media works on paper, giclee prints, artists books and illustrated book necklaces, fashioned in my home studio in London.
A word about the models listed as ‘reserved’ - they're not for sale and are simply displayed to give you an idea of the kind of work I make. I don’t take custom orders, but if you'd like to know when I' m next making a particular kind of animal, simply convo me, I’ll be happy to contact you when I’m next listing.
I use neither moulds nor photographs when sculpting animals, but draw on memories of a Scottish childhood spent spotting hares on the moor, watching wildcats in their natural habitat and raising an asthmatic ferret in a sock drawer. This panoply of images of animals in action serves as an internal storehouse, activated by the organic materials I use to bring my creatures to life.
Much of this is gathered in Scotland - from lichen fallen from the bark in riverside woods to Highland cow hair and sheep's wool that I wash, hand card, spin on a drop spindle and knit into pelts. I often fashion paws from vintage kid leather gloves sourced from two wonderful costume emporiums. Hand-modelled clay faces are completed with the tips of feathers dipped in paint to invoke the finest details of fur.
My home studio doubles as a painting space and printing workshop. I paint largely in waterolour and gouache with pastel and Caran d'Ache pencil detail. I pull my prints on a desktop etching press, preferring drypoint and engraving techniques for their immediacy - scoring into copper is the equivalent for me of having a pencil in hand: every line counts. When etching, I use non-toxic processes - salt for aquatint and soy sauce to degrease copper plates.
As texture and colour are at the heart of all my pieces, I work with an Essex-based repro house whose museum-quality printers and archival Epson Ultrachrome HDR inks deliver top-quality giclee prints that vividly capture the tactile detail and shades of my originals on Somerset Velvet Enhanced 255gsm paper.
The pages of my artists books are printed on a Canon Pixma printer with non-archival Epson inks. I hand bind them with beeswaxed linen thread. My books have been exhibited in Britain and internationally - from Brighton's Phoenix gallery to Climate Gallery in Long Island, New York. They're held in private and public collections, including University College London and St Bride's Printing Library, and feature in two contemporary publications on book art.
My formal training involved props and costumes making between Goldsmiths and Central Saint Martins and I studied printmaking at London's City Lit and The Art Academy.
I hope that you enjoy my work. Please note that I retain all rights to my work, including to sold items - if you want to reproduce my work, please contact me for permission.
If you have any questions about the work, simply convo me, I'm happy to help.

Accepted payment methods
If you wish to pay with a credit or debit card, choose PayPal and simply enter your information on the secure page. For more details, see: https://www.etsy.com/help/article/361
I take great care to pack items safely. I try to package using recycled materials. Models tend to be held within their box by a harness to minimise movement in transit and come with instructions for releasing them safely from their container. Prints and paintings are shipped flat in acid-free tissue inside a cello bag, held within rigid boards.
Orders ship from London, usually on a Friday, to the address listed in your PayPal payment. I send you two Etsy convos, one to acknowledge your order, one to let you know when your item has shipped and the approximate date you can expect delivery.
American buyers please note that I require your full nine-digit zip code (five digits followed by a hyphen and four further digits). As orders sent to America with only five digit codes run the risk of being sent back to Britain, I can only send items to America once I have received a full zip code. If your full zip code isn't registered in your PayPal address, I would be grateful if you could convo me with the full information along with your order.

Duties, taxes and customs clearance fees are the responsiblity of the cutomer.
