The name Rona Moon comes from the Maori legend 'Ko Rona me te Marama' or 'Rona and the Moon' in english. I love this story and for me it is so mystical, romantic and unexpected. The legend tells of a woman named Rona who after having an argument with her husband storms out of the house to fetch some water. Stumbling and cursing in the dark, she trips and falls when a cloud passes in front of the moonlight. She screams and curses at the moon for having fallen and in anger the moon reaches down and pulls her up into the sky. She eventually falls in love with the moon and remains in the sky, preferring to stay with the moon rather than returning to earth and her husband. To show his affection, the moon gifts Rona a special cloak adorned with stars and from then on she becomes the controller of the tides.

Everything in my shop is made by me. I create all of these pieces from scratch in my tiny workshop in Auckland, New Zealand. I am extremely passionate about leather craft and costume and love to make individual pieces from beautiful local materials and also recycled materials. You may notice that most of my pieces are either one offs or need to be made to order. I am open to custom orders and will be happy to do whatever I can to make something special and unique.
