About

Rooted Earth Farm + Herbal Apothecary

Organic bath & body care + herbal apothecary.
Made with love & positive intentions.

We live in a tiny little town in the gorgeous Lakes Region of Maine, in Casco. We have a 5 acre organic, sustainable farm with 31 chickens, 2 cats (Alfalfa + Arnica), 1 dog (Charlie), 2 guinea pigs (Twixie and Ginger) and lots and lots of plants. We love it and treasure every day that we get to live this life on this farm. Rooted Earth Farm is a small two person company and we do everything ourselves (growing the plants, harvesting, processing, making the products, bottling, labeling, shipping, customer service, etc...), so everything has a personal touch and has to pass our strict standards of quality.

Sustainability is extremely important to us– we do our best to incorporate it into every aspect of our personal lives and work life at Rooted Earth.

Rooted Earth's owner, Sara, graduated from UMaine with a BS in Environmental Horticulture, minor in Sustainable Agriculture, and another minor in Business. Her degree is extremely helpful in many ways, but especially in knowing how to properly identify plants when she is wild-crafting, and how to grow them properly.

Sara has been creating and selling herbal skin care and apothecary products for over 20 years. Her love of herbs began as a child through her grandmother's love of herbs. Mimi always had big gardens filled with herbs and Sara loved walking through and smelling and becoming familiar with each one. They would often take a trip to eat at an herb themed restaurant in New Hampshire and it's one of Sara's most favorite memories.

Herbs were the beginning of Sara's love affair with plants and her reason for seeking a degree in horticulture/agriculture and in starting the farm. She has been growing organic & sustainable fruits, vegetables, cut flowers, and herbs for many years.

Spending days outside with the magic of mother nature, watching the miracle of a seed growing into something that gives energy and health, as well as nights/winters inside creating sustainable, organic skin care and apothecary products is what Sara was meant to do! She is so grateful for all of Rooted Earth’s customers for giving her the opportunity to do what she loves so much!

Our products are created in small batches using organic and/or wild-crafted ingredients. We only wild-craft here on our land and in a sustainable way, always leaving enough of the plant/plant stand so that it can still grow and reproduce in the future. We are constantly replanting seeds and harvesting with pure intention and respect for the environment. Our products are never tested on animals. The beeswax and honey that we use is local so we know they are harvested in a respectful and sustainable way.

Charlie is the Rooted Earth farm dog and snuggle bug. He loves to dress up and you will find him looking handsome in his many sweaters on our Instagram page. He also loves sunbathing while we work on the farm.

I offer gift wrapping for orders, just choose the option when you are checking out!

We make our packages as eco-friendly as possible. All orders are packaged in recyclable/reused paper to protect glass items. Liquid items have to go in a plastic bag, but you can reuse this! Then items are placed into a muslin bag that you can reuse as well. Any bubble wrap that may be used is reused from packaging that we receive when we order supplies. We encourage you to recycle and/or reuse any packaging that you can!
