Announcement   Welcome to the Royal House of Whimsy! Everything in my shop is made by me, from patterns that I've created. I make all sorts of frivolous little fripperies, from pirate tricorns and Regency bonnets to goblin dolls and Krampus hats.
I am influenced by history, literature and fairy tales, particularly those from the British isles, from Jane Austen and Lewis Carroll to Harry Potter and Grace O'Malley. I hope you enjoy seeing my fanciful creations as much as I enjoyed making them!

I wore this with a vintage style blue dress, black tights and boots and got so many compliments on my costume for the Harry Potter themed party we went to on Halloween!

Updates

New options on my McGonagall witch hat include choice of feather colors and a ribbon cockade with button to make it just a little bit fancier!
I have a whole collection of new stovepipe bonnets, just in time for Easter! They are beautiful, bright springtime colors, like a basket of Easter eggs, and I can't choose a favorite.
Wishing you all a very merry holiday season! I just traveled through the Bavarian alps attending Krampus events but am so happy to come home to a white Christmas and Agatha, my own little Krampus.

About

Fantasy Headwear For Real Life

I've been making costumes for as long as I can remember. As a child I just used whatever I found in my dress-up box (instead of the traditional trunk filled with costumes, I had a giant basket shaped like an elephant- I don't know why) and as I got older I began to create my own. I learned to follow commercial patterns and to draft my own (the most useful class I ever took in college) but there was often something missing. I realized that hats can make or break a costume, yet they are rarely included in patterns. I have a large head, and store-bought hats weren't an option for me, so I turned to millinery and made my own. I love creating historical headgear out of unusual objects, and it delights me to know that people all over the world have found one of my hats to be the perfect finishing touch to their costume. Or that they just love them so much they want to wear them all the time.
I have kits available for people to create their own bonnets, and I am working on several hat patterns that I hope to have available soon.
I have a bachelor's degree in theatre arts and a master's in teaching, so it seems fitting that I create kits and patterns to allow people to create their own little slices of whimsy, and hopefully, to make some old dreams come true!

I love costumes and make believe and trying to add whimsy to life whenever possible. My goal is to recapture the joy and wonder of being young, and to live out childhood fantasies and fairy tales in vivid technicolor!

Frequently asked questions

How do I get an accurate head measurement to ensure a hat will fit?

The best way to measure your head is to go across your forehead and just above your ears. You want to measure around the largest part of the head.

What is your return policy?

I accept returns. Please contact me before sending an item back. Buyers are responsible for return shipping costs. If the item is not returned in its original condition, the buyer is responsible for any loss in value. There is a 50% restocking fee for returns on custom made items. There is a 25% restocking fee for costume items purchased during September and October and returned after Halloween.

Which countries do you ship to?

I can ship to any country, but it is the buyer's responsibility to find out about any fees, import taxes, or regulations regarding importing (this especially applies to feathers). I do not know the laws or import fees for each county and can't be held responsible for policies set by your government.

How long will it take international orders to arrive?

Shipping varies by destination, with shipments to some counties taking two to three weeks to arrive. Sometimes packages are held at local post offices and customers must pick them up in person and pay an import tax. This varies by country. Sometimes your post office notifies you and sometimes they don't. It is a good idea to track the package yourself (go to the You section of Etsy, select Purchases and Reviews, and hit the Track Package button) and check with your post office when you see that it has arrived. I have no control over this and can't help if your post office holds your package or charges a fee.
