Please take extra care to read the listing description. If you leave a name to be embroidered but don't buy a personalized listing, the towel will not be personalized. If you purchase a personalized listing and don't leave a name, the towel will not be personalized. I wish I could take the time to investigate such discrepancies, but my order level has increased to the degree that there just isn't time. Thank you for your understanding!!

About

Creating smiles one tub at a time

I was copy editing college textbooks up until five years ago when my fifth pregnancy made me unusually sick. I decided not to pick up copy editing again and found myself looking for another way to fulfill myself that would complement my role as a mother. I had made simple hooded towels modeled after a baby gift I received for my first son, but certainly hadn’t thought of trying to sell them. Two years ago my sister-in-law encouraged me to try a craft fair, but I was hesitant. I had been to craft fairs and seen hooded towels; if I was going to do it, my towels would have to be unique.

I stood in the store among all the different colors of towels with my then 11-year-old daughter taking notes. We filled the cart with what would become a dinosaur, ladybug, dog, monkey, frog, duck, pig, and flower. I went home and started sketching patterns. I sewed. And sewed. And sewed. RubaDub Buddies was born.

It seems everything I do involves creating — whether it’s my hooded towels or a home with some semblance of order. Breakfast is followed by showers and shoe-finding adventures, sprinkled with occasional power struggles, somehow by 7:35 clothes are on, hair is done, teeth are brushed, lunches are made, backpacks are loaded, and we have family prayer to send them out the door for the bus. I’m out the door right behind the kids to go walk an hour with the ladies — four friends who teach me how to be a better woman, wife, and mother.

I’ve never really considered myself an artist. But I guess if an artist is someone who makes something to express their creativity in a unique way and bring joy to others, I’m an artist. I receive such satisfaction when I create. I just imagine the smiles and happiness shared when my creations are given as a token of love. I’m so grateful for this opportunity to bless and enrich the lives of others.

When an idea comes to add another Buddy to the family, nearly everything else goes. I’ve caught myself scheming while standing in the grocery store line, making dinner, or listening to my first-grader read. How to make the caterpillar’s stripes? Where to place the ladybug’s spots? How to make the shark’s dorsal fin stand up? After I’ve schemed in my mind, I begin sketching on paper and cutting out the parts.

I don’t have a set time of day that I sew, I mostly squeeze it in wherever it will fit. And with sewing comes unpicking, although it’s especially challenging with the terry cloth! But it’s worth it when I figure out the perfect placement for ears or crowns after sewing, unpicking, sewing, and unpicking again.

Sometimes the creative process can be a bit overwhelming. But I’ve learned that one of the challenges of embracing this creative streak is keeping a balance between it and my ultimate responsibility of cultivating a happy home. You’d never guess by looking at the final product that it was created amidst phone calls, mothering, or in the corner of a small three-bedroom home.

My most cherished handmade possesion would have to be the plaster molds of my newborns’ hands. They’re lined up in their birth order, each in its own glass dome on top of my television armoire. I clearly remember the unique experience of making each one. Some took several attempts and others came out perfectly on the first try. They signify what a miracle life is — such a creation to be cherished.`

These little Buddies are my very own brain child. I have schemed, drawn, designed, reworked, and sewn each design. As a result one version may differ slightly from another. That's what makes these little critters unique. Please allow for slight variances from my shop's photos.

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy gift cards
Payment
I accept payments via PayPal or credit card. I will begin making "made upon order" or "custom" items AFTER payment is received. The product will be shipped within 2 weeks from when I receive payment. If you wish to cancel your order, please simply convo me, and I will issue a full refund.
Shipping
PACKAGES SHIPPED WITHIN UNITED STATES
All packages within the United States are shipped with delivery confirmation via United States Postal Service Priority Mail at least 2 weeks from receiving payment. This usually takes 2 to 3 days. (If you have a tighter deadline, please convo me, and we will work out an arrangement.)

You will receive notification when your order ships, which will include the tracking number allowing each of us to track the package at www.usps.com. Towels shipped within the United States are packaged in a USPS Priority Mail box.

INTERNATIONAL PACKAGES
International packages under 4 pounds (1 or 2 towels) are shipped First Class USPS in a new, unmarked box. International packages more than 4 pounds (3 or more towels) are shipped USPS Priority Mail in a USPS Priority Mail box or a new, unmarked box.

All international packages only include a confirmation number, NOT a tracking number. This means you can see on the USPS website that it has been shipped, but not where it is in transit. You will receive a confirmation number and may enter this number at www.usps.com to confirm your order has been shipped.

If you want your international package tracked, convo me, as the cost will differ from what is included in the listing.

Please note that buyers are responsible for any and all duties and customs charges that may be incurred.

GIFTING A RUBADUB BUDDY
If you plan to gift a RubADub Buddy, I'll gladly ship it to the lucky recipient. All you have to do is change the "ship to" address from yours to that of the recipient when you check out. This will ensure that the Buddy is not sent to you and that the appropriate shipping rate is applied.

If you want a note added to the package, please leave what you want it to say in the "note to seller" section at checkout, regardless of whether we have discussed the note's content in a separate conversation. I will do my best to accommodate, however I can't guarantee. I sometimes package and ship 60+ Buddies at a time and unfortunately an additional, infrequent step may be overlooked.

I suggest tracking the package with the number I send you when it ships (within the US). Upon its arrival, contact the recipient to ensure they know you sent it. I have had recipients contact me upon receiving an anonymous Buddy, inquiring who the sender is. I'm happy to tell them, unless you tell me otherwise, in the event that you want the Buddy to remain a surprise. Please leave such a request in the "notes to seller" at checkout, regardless of whether we have discussed the arrangement in a separate conversation.

PACKAGING
Each towel has stuffing in its hood, a ribbon tied around it, my company tag, and placed in a plastic bag.
Refunds and Exchanges
I am happy to exchange an item if it is defective within one month of receipt. The buyer must cover the cost to return the item then I will ship a new item upon receipt of the defective item. I do not accept returns.
Additional policies and FAQs
Towels are 100 percent cotton, machine wash cold, delicate cycle. Wash with the hood inside out as to prevent from overstressing seams. Dry on low heat. Each weighs about 2 pounds with hood.

I welcome custom orders. I LOVE custom orders. Please contact me using the "Request Custom Order" bottom on my shop's front page. There may be additional fees that I will inform the buyer of BEFORE I make it.
