5 out of 5 starsIt’s a beautiful piece. We’ve placed it in a prominent place on the outside of our barn. I’m sure will become a family heirloom. Rich is a wonderful artist, and I highly recommend his work. One suggestion: verify the colors you would like. Our eagle came with an orange beak instead of a yellow one, but I didn’t specify beforehand.

This is the real deal about hand carved custom signs...I don't use any power tools or computers..!
I have been a carver just about my entire life from the time I used a dull steak knife to carve things from a bar of IVORY SOAP right up to custom making made a fine detail knife from a turn of the century file that has lost all it "teeth" but not the quality of the steel...Getting retired a few years ago has let me pursue a lifelong ambition to be my own boss and make decisions to create exactly what my mind sees, and hopefully someone will like it enough to buy it!!!!.
I have always loved to create 3-dimensional work, and now being retired, I am throwing myself into creating unique custom signs carvings and whimsical creations to sell at craft fairs up and down the East Coast. I did craft shows for the past 5 yeas here on the East Coast, but recent shoulder surgery has made me rethink all that is involved with that business, and I now work entirely from home. I get tremendous creative satisfaction when I get contacted about custom signs or creations and recently I have started to make Automata...hand cranked carvings that move and react to the motion of cams, levers and gears. I will be posting the finished pieces here soon.
Every piece of my work is made using antique or home made knives, chisels, planes or spokeshaves and every letter I have carved is laid out purely by eye and hand....no computers or powered carvers.

Shop policies
I have been using knives and other tools to make things for well over 40 years and take pleasure in making my decorative creations from pine or basswood that has very often been recycled from furniture or shipping crates and given a new life.
I use these pieces of wood for signs, sculptures of all types and furniture.. While there are hundreds of sign makers advertising their work here, I know that I am in the minority of those who use knives and chisels to create my letters rather than routers or woodburning tools. Each letter is laid out by eye and hand, then needs 4 to 8 hand cuts to finish, and then is again hand painted and filled with gold enamel.
When a distressed part is needed, I use a technique I perfected over 30 years ago to make the pieces appear to truly have been exposed to the elements for decades. I have worked with antique dealers to either duplicate aged items or repair and match portions of antiques to make them saleable.
One more important thing I believe in is I have never made an item that I would not be proud to have in my house or on my wall.
