This is so beautiful - even more striking in person. I gave this drawing to my husband (who grew up in Barrow) as a gift, and he absolutely loves it. We will be buying more. Shipped quickly and well protected. Thanks so much!

About

Alaska Native Art from the Northern Arctic Tundra

Creating artwork holds a special and unique spot in our ancient culture. The place we grew up in is the longest inhabited place in Northern America, layers and layers of humanity and creation building upon one another for thousands of years. Artwork is often the only thing that survives those distant years, and so it proves to be one strong connection to the past.

Since we are a product of two worlds (one old and wise, and one young and empowered) it seems very fitting that we create pieces that reflect that combination. We enjoy the process of learning and rejoicing in the finding of that knowledge. I (Nasuġraq) obtained my degree in Studio Art which has allowed me to appreciate good craftsmanship and gives me a sturdy base on which to express my culture. My Husband (Itałłook) is an accomplished traditional subsistence hunter and a great fountain of knowledge.

We still live a subsistence lifestyle, with 75% of our food and clothing and implements coming from the land/sea/air and with trade with each other. In this adventure I always carry a camera with me, and I bring home pieces of our vibrant world to share with you. We often also get to join other people who regale us with epic and mundane arctic tales, which inspire my drawings.

All of the funds raised in this store go directly to this small communities economy and to support our subsistence lifestyle.

Everything I mail out is sent with Arctic love and care!

FAQ's

Please convo me questions and I will add them here as they are answered.

?: Do I print larger sizes of the drawings? Photos?
A: At this time I am doing all of my prints at home on my own professional level printer using quality inks and paper. It does limit the size I can print though to the size of a normal piece of paper, 8.5 x 11 inches and anything smaller. Since I live in a remote part of the country I do not have regular access to making larger prints at this time.

?: What paper do I use for the OOAK drawings.
A: I love and always will use Strathmore Bristol smooth. It is heavyweight and acid free.

?: What do I use to draw.
A: I use
Prismacolor colored pencils,
Faber-Castell artist pens, which is Indian ink, waterproof, and lightfast
Sakura Pentouch quick dry opaque white ink, permanent

?: What do I use for block prints?
A: I use Speedball inks, and various quality block printing papers.

?: what papers do I use for photos?
A: I use various professional level photo papers. I will put in the description what I have used. All inks and papers are museum quality and should last for generations if taken care of.

?:What paper and ink do you use for your prints?
A: I use Canson Infinity Arches paper. Or Moab entrada bright 190 paper. Both are high quality, museum level digital paper. I also use an Epson Artisan printer with Claria high definition inks at maximum resolution to capture as much detail from my original drawing as possible.

?: what paints do you use?
A: I use high quality acrylics or water based oils.
