About

Big Dreams Find a Way

My Grace: Very little gets in her way. She's determined, smart, wordy and shy. She digs in her heals, pushes the outer limits, doubts herself frequently, knows what she wants, is both humble and proud and almost always lands on her feet.

My daughter began this business with me as an Economics project with the side benefit of earning money for a private school university education on a public school budget. She longs for and dreams of the farthest corners of the earth, all starting in DC.

She handles the business side of things along with all things technological and I take care of the sewing creations. We are a great team, our individual skills and talents complementing each other well.

The Big Dreams have begun. She is on the other side of the country, studying hard, growing in leaps and bounds. I don't know what's around the corner, but I know we'll find a way.

I hope you enjoy our shop filled with vintage, often historical "rags" made into beautiful, functional everyday wares.

Sewing has been a part of my life since my burly Uncle Bob helped me sew my first skirt. Thrifting (and vintage) became a love and a necessity as I made my way through college. My daughter and I combine the two in lovely offerings to you.

Shop policies

Last updated on May 10, 2012
Welcome to Salvage Seamstress, where I "dig up" lovely old things that have lost their usefulness, but have a value in the story they still tell of the past. Too beautiful to throw out or to stuff into a dark drawer, only to be seen occasionally ... these things are given a lovely new purpose, while still retaining their original charm.

If one of my items is made out of feed sack material, it may very well have small stains or fading, even possibly a patch, showing off its age, previous use and charm. I include these in the images of the product, as I believe they tell part of its story. I do not include anything in my shop that I would not use myself and cut out or overlay any stains that are large enough to detract from the finished product.
