Not all my ready made items are always on Etsy. You can always contact me if you saw something somewhere else. I only sell on this etsy shop and via the email on my website www.samalla.nl.

5 out of 5 starsPostal tracking wasn't the best. But, I can't fault the quality of the hood. I'm looking forward to using it for my viking reenactment ASAP. Price is comparable to what I would pay for similar item locally had any been available. Would reconmend 🌟

5 out of 5 starsAbsolutely LOVE it! Nice material, the natural, off white colour is great. I worried it would be too pink-ish, but it looks just right. I can't wait to wear it!

5 out of 5 starsI bought this as a bridesmaid's dress for my maid of honor. It is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. The soft cotton, embroidered flowers, the sheer amount of material and how it all fits is amazing. It matches my Greco-Roman style wedding dress perfectly! I love it so much, I may not let her keep this dress! Packaging was also amazing and lovingly wrapped. Wonderful seller.

About SamallaNL
About Samalla
I've been all around with what I made and it has landed here. A sustainable company specialized in historical fashion.
As Sustainable as possible
Through the years of sewing I found my materials questionable and the amount of garbage I produced worrying. I've dived into the world of Fair Trade and organic. Most suppliers can't even tell where their materials are from, so turning to the ones that could, minimised my choices. For me this is actually a lot of fun to work with. You get very creative with a minimum of supplies.
Sensible
After making many historical items, I keep going back to early medieval and ancient Greek and Roman models. They sew as if every fibre was precious. I also like garment to fit right. It shouldn't pull, push or be in your way. I like to wrap myself in nice fabric and feel wonderful at the same time, without slacking my appearance. And I like to do that for you.
History
I've been to the Art Academy and Fashion Academy. Samalla was official since October 2010. I made mostly LARP garments, corsets, victorian and lots of fantasy-fashion. I did a bit of COSplay on commission, but due to lack of space not anymore. My focus is early medieval and ancient Greece/Rome. I eco-dye, weave, embroider and sew.

Owner, Maker, Designer
I have been to two creative educations: Gerrit Rietveld Academie (art academy) and Amsterdam Fashion Institute (Design & Styling). I have an interest in the geeky and historical world. Sometimes I go a bit overboard on the green side. And I'm odd.

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalised orders
EU except Germany: You can email me on info[at]samalla.nl to check for spots on custom orders. You could send a message via etsy, but you will also get charged the etsy fee.
Outside EU and Germany: Please send me a message via Etsy. I do these via etsy, because they calculate the hard administrative bits.
Care instructions
There will be a note on how to care for your items in your order.
Wholesale availability
I do not have the manpower or time to create large quantities of my items. If you want to order a lot of ready made items, contact me on info[at]samalla.nl.
Shipping and Transit times
Shipping rates are set per item. If you exceed a certain amount by ordering more items, I might have to recalculate the rates.
Gift messages: Know that I'm obligated to state the value on the package for insurance of the package.
You will receive a track and trace (if possible for your country) and your parcel is insured against loss and/or damage. You will need to sign for it. Make sure your address in etsy is correct. If the address is wrong or incomplete, I cannot refund shipping costs (see abandoned packages).
You can find the transit times of Postnl here: www.internationalparceltracking.com
Note that these are estimates if the parcel is not held up for any reason (like customs).
Responsible Materials
I use, where I can, organic / fair trade / recycled / biodegradable materials.
I shun polyester, acrylic and other plastic materials. What you still see in the shop, is what was still in my stock and I'm phasing it out.
I am not afraid of leather and fur (and try to get this ethically sourced). If you do not like the use of leather or fur, I can look for vegan options. Mind that I'll look for plant based substitutes, and not for the plastic based ones.
My scraps and cutoffs always find a purpose. Some becomes pillow filler, some gets composted.
Packaging
I pack my items in tissue paper and packing paper against moist from the outside. I use an unbleached or repurposed cardboard box to ship. These items are all recyclable. For some items I reuse packaging materials that were send to me (wich can be bubblewrap or other plastic packaging).
Abandoned packages
It sometimes happens a package is returned to me due to failing to deliver or refusing to accept. Reasons mostly are a faulty address, not willing to pay customs or just not able to deliver (not home and nobody is picking it up). They call this an abandoned package. These are returned to me (and can take months).
Once I get these packages back, I will issue a refund
- MINUS shipping costs I made
- MINUS extra costs made for shipping it back to me
- MINUS damage costs to the product
So please check your address details in Etsy, know that customs are not my responsibility and check for pickup notes if the mail-man missed you.
Strange world shipping information
Because there is a pandemic/war/insert other crisis in our world right now, shipping is a bit different than we are used to. Please check your local postal service for updates. My shop stays open as long as shipping is possible for the Netherlands.
Please check postNL for updates: https://www.postnl.nl/en/customer-service/delivery-status/international-service-alerts/
