About

Handwoven Warmth Through an Ancient Craft

The number of weavers in the world has decreased due to the competition with fast weaving machines. When I started, I really felt like I was holding an ancient art alive simply by weaving. And it really is that simple. I wove for my own well being, but also loved to represent a slow, beautiful art so as to remind us all of our basic humanity and a return to simple living and high thinking. However, the meaning of weaving has also shifted for me in the last year. When I started, it was about practicality and taking responsibility for my consumption. Those roots still exist, just now I am completely focused on satisfying colors in how I combine them. The art is in the acquiring of the fiber and then the subsequent positioning of the fibers.

When I first sat at the loom in 2001 in Arizona, it felt so natural and familiar. People in the Prescott College community (where I went to school), started to ask me for custom orders.
The dedication to my work grew and I pursued weaving with greater attention. I have sold my scarves spontaneously in airplanes, in yurts, and a few right off my neck back in the day! I sold over 400 scarves along the way, usually spontaneously and always to the perfect match for the scarf. I put a few scarves up on Etsy in 2010 but did not pursue it and let my shop quietly simmer to a close. But In November 2011, after suggestions from friends, I started my shop again on Etsy.

I shop for color and texture to translate it into a piece that communicates thoughtful gradient arrangement. I focus on detail and perfection within this art. It is my vision to create scarves that stay in someones life for a lifetime. Intriguing color combination, natural fibers (I have a no plastic fiber policy!) and detailed designs, my weaving carries a special, warm feel that you can only get from a handwoven piece.

Welcome to Sameheart Designs!
I started weaving in 2000 because I loved sewing and wanted to make my own material because I couldn't find what I wanted on the market. At the same time, I started to learn about ecology and sweatshops and that really motivated me to work towards an ethical, handmade life. On the artistic side, I adored the arts of traditional people and that greatly inspired me to dive into my own creative source. Over 11 years, I have really honed in on the best materials, methods and colors and have developed my own style of designing. I weave colorful and unique scarves and blankets made with organic and natural fibers, and I completely avoid synthetics. Handmade is so special and makes like gorgeous!
