Crafting with culture and love
Hi there, my name is Kathleen (also Katya), and I am the designer and founder of Sansar Threads. I am in love with everything that is fiber arts-related. What inspires me the most about fiber art is how woven stories illuminate culture, ancestry, and tradition.
I have lived and knitted/crocheted all around the world in countries such as Peru, China, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan. My background in anthropology helped me discover and guide myself into reflecting deeply on how just a simple needle/hook and a ball of yarn can weave stories, retell history, and even connect us to our ancestors and heritage.
I knit and crochet to tell stories that will bring forth reflection, cultural awareness, and inspiration. My goal is to design patterns that incorporate the importance of cultural preservation and bring along awareness to protect, remember, and respect the world’s many cultures. I, ultimately, aim to tell stories by transforming them into a gorgeous wearable tapestry full of tradition, love, respect, and awareness.
During the pandemic, I rediscovered my love for fiber art and created this store to share my inspiration and journey to connect with culture, heritage, and travel through yarn. Thank you all for supporting my shop and my passion for crafting with anthropology.
I hope you enjoy the patterns and stitch markers as much as I loved making them!
