Easy to follow pattern! Super cute. My friend loved it.
Cross Stitch for a Happy World
Satsuma Street is the name of the street I live on, so in case you were wondering, there's that mystery solved.
Satsuma Street is in Los Angeles, where I live with my husband and two goofy cats, and where I quit my exciting and lucrative job in the film industry to become a full-time cross stitch designer. Sounds crazy, I know. If that seems improbable to you, just imagine how I feel.
You know how everyone always says if you want to start a business, you should identify a need and then fill it? I thought that was lame advice until I tried it. But it turns out, that's exactly how it works! I felt like there weren't enough interesting, contemporary cross stitch patterns for crafters who want to make something amazing…not just something to occupy their time for a few hours, but something they will love and be proud of for years. So I set out to design some patterns like that, and I drew inspiration from my favorite artists, like Mary Blair and Charley Harper and Alexander Girard, and I just hoped there were people out there who would find them, and love them. And the wonderful thing is, they did find them! And now I feel like we are starting a community of people who don't feel the need anymore to apologize for loving a craft that had become synonymous with grandmas and kitsch. Which are two of my favorite things, honestly, but they really had a monopoly on the cross stitch market.
I hope you are one of those people I wasn't sure existed, and I hope you join our community of stitchers and you share your love of craft and modern design with me, just like I want to share it with you. If you need me I'll be here, living on Satsuma Street, dreaming up new cross stitch patterns to make you happy.
A lifelong needlecraft enthusiast, I've worked as a costume designer, graphic artist, and craft designer for 15 years. I've contributed designs to many craft and sewing books, and taught countless people how to thread a needle and start stitching!
Hi, I'm Jody Rice, the owner and operator of Satsuma Street. I make happy cross stitch patterns so you can fill your life and your home with colorful, beautiful artwork that you make with your own two hands! (All your friends will be super impressed, I promise.)
ABOUT MY DESIGNS
All Satsuma Street patterns are stitched by me or one of my trusted sample stitchers before I make them available for sale. This is important to me, as I find that you can't really tell what a pattern will look like until it's stitched. You can purchase my charts with confidence that they will look great when you finish them!
Can beginners make my projects? You bet! If after purchasing a pattern, you are confused or need help in any way, just ask me! I'm always happy to answer questions, and all my instant downloads come with a page of instructions that explain basic cross stitch techniques. Or, check out one of the many cross-stitch tutorials on youtube!
Patterns are either instant downloads or will be sent to you as a PDF file attached to an email within 24 hours of payment. If you do not receive your pattern within 24 hours, please check your spam folder to make sure it didn't end up there. If you still don't have it, just send me a message and I will happily re-send.
All pdf patterns and the designs those patterns are based on are copyright protected and may not be redistributed, reproduced, shared in any way, shape or form as your own. If you see my patterns being sold or shared illegally anywhere, I'd appreciate it if you let me know!
RE-SELLING MY DESIGNS
Digital patterns MAY NOT be resold in any form. This includes selling the digital file AND/OR selling a printed copy of the digital file. Patterns MAY NOT be offered for free in any forum.
I do sell printed versions of my charts to needlework supply shops and websites. Here on Etsy, The Cottage Needle is an authorized seller of my printed charts.
Finished items made from my patterns may not be sold without my permission. Please contact me to discuss.
Accepted payment methods
- Accepts Etsy gift cards
EU Residents: There is now a VAT charge for downloadable digital goods purchased in the EU. Files which are emailed are not subject to the VAT. Please contact me prior to purchase if you have questions about which of my listings are or are not subject to the VAT.
For listings that are not instant downloads, your files will be sent via email within 24 hours of payment.
Refunds and Exchanges
Please note: I am NOT selling finished cross-stitch projects. You will be purchasing a pattern so that you (or someone who loves you) can make a finished item yourself. After downloading a pattern, if you ask for a refund because you were expecting a finished item in the mail, it will not be given.
I am also NOT selling kits. The patterns don't come with materials such as fabric and thread. Everything is digital.
If for any reason you are not happy with the pattern you receive, please let me know how I can fix the problem and I'll do my best to help.
Additional policies and FAQs
Q: Do you sell wholesale to shops?
Yes! Satsuma Street charts are now available as high quality printed leaflets for needlework shops and websites. Please contact me at satsumastreet[at]gmail.com for a wholesale catalog and ordering info!
Q: What fabric do you use for your samples?
Many of my samples, including the city patterns, are stitched on Fiddler's Cloth, which is a type of Aida that has a variegated, natural look to it. It's available from many craft stores and online sellers, just search for "Fiddler's cloth".
Q: I don't cross stitch. Do you sell finished cross stitch pieces?
Unfortunately, I cannot sell the finished pieces. I only make one sample, and I need to keep them for publicity purposes. You should really try cross stitch though...I think you'll like it.
Q: Would you make a custom pattern for me?
I'm currently too busy to take requests for custom patterns. This unfortunately includes requests for custom cities. I may be available to do commissions for magazines, books, and publication. If you are interested in publishing my work, please send me a message here, or email me at satsumastreet [at] gmail.com.
Q: Do you have any other city patterns available?
All the patterns I have are in the shop! You can stay in touch with me through Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook to see what I'm currently working on and what will be released next. The most requested cities get higher priority, so if you want to see your favorite place represented, make sure to let me know!
Q: Can I sell a piece I've made from a Satsuma Street pattern?
I don't know how you could part with them...I can't! No, my patterns are for personal use only and finished pieces, paper patterns or kits may not be sold without my direct permission.
Q: I think someone is selling or sharing Satsuma Street patterns without your permission, what should I do?
Please let me know! I vigorously defend my copyrights, so send me a link to the content and I will take it from there.
