How Sblossem Bowtique came to be
Being a mom to 4, you can imagine that I have time to spare <----- sarcasm . I found myself completely lost in my little monsters, I enjoyed being a mom so much that I didn't have time to be bored. There was always something to do, someplace to go or something to clean lol! When my youngest kiddo started school I had all this free time on my hands that I didn't know how to fill. I had always been crafty and enjoyed playing with my glue gun and learning new crochet techniques but the time I had for all that went out the window when I had kids. After two weeks of daytime tv I was ready to pull my hair out, so I made a trip to Hobby Lobby and spent a small fortune on yarn, ribbon, and all the other crafty stuff I could get my hands on.
When my husbands sister found out she was pregnant, that's was the first time in YEARS I had a good excuse to do something crafty. When we found out she was having a girl my creative juices nearly exploded with all the possibilities that started to flood my brain. I decided on a crochet blanket with matching hat and booties. I got started immediately, I finished it all in a matter of days. The feeling of accomplishment was amazing and I was so incredibly excited for my sister in law to see it and for my niece to use it. The next month at her baby shower my gift was a huge hit, everyone was talking about how beautiful the set was and how talented I was (insert inflated ego here LOL) I went home and told my husband I wanted to start marketing my blankets. I had NO clue how to go about doing it, got frustrated after a few months and quit.
I continued to crochet for family and friends, I made each of my kids a blanket and one for my husband but I didn't think of selling them anymore.
I started sewing again after close to 10 years when my sister in law wanted all these cute boutique outfits for my niece, I had forgotten how much I really enjoyed it. Shortly after my husband's brothers wife announced she was pregnant, to my excitement, she too was having a girl. Visions of ruffles danced in my head and I started planning the elaborate baby shower gift this very lucky little girl was going to get from her favorite Auntie. I nearly went broke at the fabric store but I didn't care :-). I made her dresses with matching burp rags and bibs and blankets. I also crocheted her my "famous" blanket, booties and hat set. When my sister in law opened the bags of things I had made for my niece all the woman went NUTS. One of the ladies my sister in law worked with told me about a web sight called Etsy (what a weird name hehe) where she sold her nursery art, she suggested I try it out and see what happened. I was nervous remembering how I had tanked the first time around and talked myself out of it.
Fast forward to October 2011 and my husband was starting to get frustrated with all the bows and dresses and things that I had piling up in our closet, I had been bitten by the creative bug and I was addicted. I didn't know WHAT I was planning on doing with all the things I was making but I couldn't stop making them LOL. I decided then to open an etsy shop to see if I could sell a couple of the things I had made.
To my delight I sold almost everything in a short amount of time. That was it, I was addicted to the craft crack! People actually liked what I was making and were PAYING me to make it for them. I did it! I made a business out of something that I absolutely love to do, how lucky am I?
