Announcement   The soltice has passed, and it's definitely full summer at last. So, time to treat yourself to a new scarf for those long summer evenings! The Scarf Runner offers artful, imaginative scarves hand knit from some of the loveliest yarns available. The fibers I use to create the scarves are mostly hypoallergenic--silk, cotton, linen, bamboo, and alpaca. Some scarves are silk or cotton blends which do contain mohair and wool but remain soft and non-irritating to the skin. Most of the yarns are hand-dyed or hand-painted-- and a few are hand-spun--making each scarf a wonderful, one-of-a-kind piece.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or are interested in a custom order.

Thanks so much for browsing in my shop!

About

About Lynne

Welcome to The Scarf Runner and my reflections on fiber, yarn, knitting, and scarves in particular! My name is Lynne Alexander, and for most of my life I’ve been involved in creative endeavors. For more than fifteen years I worked as a porcelain artist and showed my pieces up and down the East Coast. Although my grandmother taught me to knit and sew as a child, only in the last few years have I returned to knitting. However, I’ve always enjoyed fiber art of all sorts, and coming back to knitting is such a delight and pleasure. And I know my family also appreciates the change from porcelain to fiber—our doorknobs are no longer smeared with clay and glaze!

Like those people who linger in bookstores for hours at a time, I cannot pass a yarn shop without turning in to explore its shelves. Wherever I am, I always find myself looking at weaving, fiber art, and lots of yarn. I have always loved fiber and find myself drawn to it, antique or modern, in museums, in shops, on the street. Whether ancient Inca weaving or contemporary embroidery from Kaross in South Africa, the designs, the colors, the textures all attract and intrigue me.

When we travel, I explore markets, museums, and local shops and often bring home an appealing fiber piece–as a present or for our own walls. Sometimes I also buy yarn for my work. Most of the time, however, I find my yarn in a local shop that I love, or I buy yarn online. Once in a while, I stumble on a wonderful new source for yarn–hand spun, beaded alpaca from Colorado or hand-spun, hand-dyed yarn from the mountains of North Carolina. Sometimes I spend days trying to decide how I will knit a yarn I particularly treasure–or I make several false starts before settling on an appealing yarn and pattern combination.

I live in the Piedmont of North Carolina with my husband and an affectionate English cocker named Kendel. The three of us love the woods and take walks along the lake nearly every day. The hues of my scarves reflect my love of nature.
