At Scents by Skanda we strive to find only the highest quality ingredients for all of our fragrances and incense. One may find that these attar oils last all day and a small amount is enough. Inspired by the Hindu tradition of Attar and ancient Middle Eastern perfumery, we offer a eclectic and dynamic alternative to commercial perfumes. Offering a vast array of unique and totally intoxicating fragrances for the discriminating nose. Each perfume is a work of art. Some blends focus on the naturally occurring essential oils such as Rose, Jasmine, or Sandalwood, while other compositions are abstract pieces of art. Skanda has a unique way of honoring the tradition of Indian Attar and marrying it with the modern imagination.
Nature has provided us with abundant sources of wonderful fragrances that can invoke a wide array of deep emotion and sensory pleasure. Each of us is stirred by a variety of fragrances and this perfumer strives to capture the beauty of the natural world as well as those of his feelings, thoughts, memories, and dreams. In addition to being spectacular personal scents, many of our attars are hand crafted for meditation and ritual use. Most of our oils can be diluted with a carrier oil and used in massage or bodywork to enhance and deepen the experience. Another popular use of our oils is to add a few drops to a tea light diffuser to transform your home, studio, or office.

I've been interested in fragrances from age 5 and I can vividly recall playing with my father's colognes as a child. I loved smelling great and I would spend a hours at a time smelling his colognes and organizing the bottles. By age 20 I became a spiritual seeker of sorts, developing a interest in meditation and mysticism. In my personal studies I realized that most of the wisdom traditions used a form of incense during ceremonies or worship. Around the same time I discovered aromatherapy through essential oils like sandalwood, patchouli, and vetiver. Studying massage therapy for several years I often incorporated aromatherapy in my healing sessions. Focusing on Thai Yoga bodywork and ayurveda lead me to using attar oils to enhance and facilitate meditation. At which point I was introduced to agarwood and oud. I’ve been working with oud for 11 years creating attars inspired by the Hindi tradition. I also offer bespoke fragrances which I have done for 8 years.

Do you use any alcohol in your blends?
Our attar blends are completely free of alcohol but may contain traces of some solvents.
What if I have fragrance sensitivities? Can I still use these oils?
We understand many people are sensitive and have allergies. We always try to use the highest quality oils. Most oils should not bother those with allergies however we cannot be sure and recommend you try a 1ml trial size before purchasing.
Can I return an item if I don't like it?
We do not accept any returns due to the personal nature of our products. Please be aware that our fragrances are blended with sensitivities in mind but due to individual skin chemistry you may not react favorably to everything. It is always advisable to order 1ml trial sizes first if you're not sure that something will work for you. We also recommend that you dilute all essential oils before skin application.
