About SciPaws

I'm just a researcher, who's trying to make her dogs seem nerdy too!

My name’s Corelle and I’m from Massachusetts, where I got my bachelors and master’s degree, both in microbiology at the University of Massachusetts - Amherst. I currently live in Madison, Wisconsin, where I’m pursuing my PhD in Cellular and Molecular Pathology, with a focus specifically on cardiovascular regenerative medicine. I have 2 dogs: 2 year old Australian shepherd, named Watson and my 5 month old border collie, named Echo!

So why did I start SciPaws?

Science has always been a huge part of my life and I wanted to share my love of science with everyone. Since I got Watson, I’ve been dressing him in all kinds of accessories, but none of them really spoke to me. They were always adventure themed or some sort of boho print. This prompted me to start SciPaws - so I could dress Watson in funny science themed bandanas and take goofy photos! Who doesn’t love a nerdy dog?

I'm very big on giving back to the community as well - I just don't have a lot of free time to volunteer since I'm a full time student. Since I knew I wanted to start a science themed pet accessories shop I figured, why not also use this shop as a way to give back? So, there are 3 different bandana prints listed in my shop called, Phosphorous, Iodine and Tin. These are bandanas you can add-on to your order and then 50% of the proceeds from these specific prints will be donated to the Dane County Humane Society located here in Madison, WI.

Since I opened back in October 2019, I've had the opportunity to expand and support foundations that I truly care about. Through my Polar Collection I released in early November 2019 I've been able to donate to the Ocean Conservancy to help mitigate destruction of one of the most beautiful places on earth, the Arctic! Someday I hope to visit before all the ice has melted, but I don’t handle the cold well at all. I also donated to WIRES Australian Wildlife Rescue to aid the effort to care for all of the animals affected by the terrible wildfires that raged through Australia in early 2020.

As SciPaws grows I’ll plan on raising money for other organizations I’m very passionate about, as well possibly designing SciPaws specific prints just for the shop. Such as a print of cardiomyocytes or a microbiology print of viruses and bacteria!

Have fun geeking out!

Hi I'm Corelle! I'm a 1st year graduate student at the UW Madison in the program of cellular and molecular pathology! I've always loved science and crafty activities and I'm obsessed with my pup, Watson. So why not combine them all - thus, SciPaws!
