My love of all things postal strongly influences my designs.
Lettering practice is just one way I like to use my blank journals.
I love playing in my journals as much as I love making them!
I'm always thinking about new products to offer in the shop.
There are usually piles of books at different stages of completion around the studio

Upcycled Book Arts Studio

Bel Mills is a collage artist and book designer inspired by second-hand, vintage and commonplace paper. In her Northern Virginia studio, Scrap Paper Circus, she uses old books, magazines, maps and office supplies—among other materials—to create one-of-a-kind journals and collaged artist books. At Scrap Paper Circus, reusing old paper is not just a method, but also a muse. As Bel tells her students, second-hand paper frees an artist from worrying about mistakes and allows experimentation without the agony of “ruining” precious materials. This outlook infuses her books with a feeling of possibility, whimsy and delight.
