I’ve been working with fabrics for 40 years, ever since I was allowed to have my first go on a sewing machine. I began sewing, doing piece work, in my 20s and since then I’ve made all manner of things from crocheted blankets to bridesmaids dresses to fancy dress costumes. I’ve also worked as a repairs and alterations consultant, most recently for the famous Jolliffe’s costume company. I pride myself that I can make almost anything, as long as it is made out of fabric… and I have been sorely tested; I’ve made everything from a Millennium Bug costume to a set of six silk bridesmaid’s dresses, all unique but complimentary, and with matching parasols. I even crocheted part of a woollen coral reef for Stephen Fry and the BBC TV show QI! I don't work from patterns except the ones I create in my head. So the more information you can give me, the more the ideas become a reality
But away from the weekly round of repairs, makes and alterations my real love is making beautiful objects in fabric. And, in recent years, I’ve fallen head over heels in love with Harris Tweed. I love the colours. I love the patterns and textures. And I love the uniqueness of this wonderful historical cloth. I began by making presents for my friends and family: purses, washbags, waistcoats and things like that. Then, one day, I was asked to make a dog coat by a friend of a friend. I’d never made anything like that before but I love a challenge and, after trying out a couple of prototypes, I created a design that I was happy with. The customer was delighted too; so delighted in fact that she asked for a matching collar and lead and I had to learn a whole new set of skills! Then she told her friends and they told their friends and, before I knew it, orders were coming in from all over the place. In the meantime, the popularity of my smaller items was growing and a good friend said to me, ‘Why not make them available online?’ And that’s where this shop came from.

So that’s my shop: beautiful, handmade items in Harris Tweed – from coin purses to dog coats. I hope you like what you see.
Please note that any photo sent to me and one which features my products, I have the right to use that photo in promotional work only.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you have or, indeed, any projects you’d be interested in me tackling that isn’t represented by my stock. As I said, I love a challenge! email me or use the custom request form

I also have a second Etsy shop called 'TheTailoredHound'. Where I make all things for your dog. www.thetailoredhound.etsy.com

Frequently asked questions
Shipping upgrades

Shipping upgrades are available on request BEFORE ordering. However please note: IF you are requesting a shipping upgrade on your order the dispatch times still apply. This is because I make all my items to order as I don't have a small little elf who does the work for me overnight (I believe they are all on some holiday vacation ... ) I will always endeavor to get your order out earlier than the dispatch date indicated, but during busy times this may not always be possible. Please contact me for further details BEFORE ordering to avoid disappointment.

Custom and personalised orders

Please enquire about any changes to my designs BEFORE ordering. I am very happy to discuss changes and requirements, but due to the expensive fabrics I use, there is usually a difference in cost for a custom order.

Sizing details

I cut all my fabric by hand, because of this sizes can vary slightly. I also have design inspiration sometimes when sewing. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I will only ever send you one of my products if I am happy with it.

Care instructions

Harris Tweed is 100% wool. Wool that comes from the black faced sheep in Scotland. It is very hard wearing, but as with all wool, it will shrink if washed in hot water and put in a tumble drier. Spot washing is only recommended.

Gift wrapping and packaging

Please contact me, BEFORE ordering, if you would like your purchase gift wrapped. I am happy to gift wrap, but there will be a cost involved

Wholesale availability

I currently do not offer wholesale on my items.
