Handmade upcycled products for daily use

The concept behind Second Gear is to make quality products for everyday use by using as many upcycled materials as possible. As it goes, all items lose their purpose one day or another, however a lot of the material used to make these items remains in superb condition. Instead of sending that unwanted item off to local landfills, I think it should instead be sent off to a local business, where it is then re-purposed. The beauty of reusing materials from previously unwanted items is in its environmental and economical benefits. The material being reused will not see a landfill for as long as I can help it.

Currently the bike tubes are supplied by a local bike shop a mile away from my location. Once acquired I cut, clean, and organize the tubes for later use. I use a biodegradable cleaning product for the cleaning process. I also frequently use parachute material from decommissioned parachutes. These parachutes are no longer in any condition to be used for their primary purpose, however the material is very high quality and still has plenty of life. I am always looking for any other materials that can be re-purposed. Using worn out pairs of pants and shorts I have salvaged zippers and fabric to make small, one of a kind, zipper pouch bags. I am constantly looking for more materials to re-purpose, as long as the make a durable product.
