SeedsandStonesShop is taking a short break
Inspired By Nature, Beauty that Heals
Seeds and Stones is a one woman company I pioneered in 2007 in the high desert of New Mexico. I can’t say I always knew I would a jewelry designer, but somehow this life has woven for me a chain of exquisite experiences, magical treasures and wise women sharing their skills, creating a natural birth for this little company to come to be.
As a life long creator, I started doing bead work at summer camp when I was about ten. I loved the craft and even considered selling some work in a local shop where I grew up, but chickened out, I was just too shy then. I have since gained confidence & skills, as well as many a talisman and trinket.
My journey of life brought me to India in 2000 where I first met stones in gem form, sparkling in shop fronts, cut before my very eyes to reveal their splendor inside. In Jaipur I wandered the streets, dazzled by gypsys and their adornments, silver amulets imbued with prayer, heavy anklets, passed through time, from woman to woman, sacred and soulful. I started to collect, with the meager rupees I had, antique silver pendants depicting the many gods and goddess’ worn around necks, prayed with, carried close and then passed on into my hands.
When my travels brought me south to the jungle I gathered up seeds, stones, & silver worked by ancient hands. I never really knew why I was filling my pockets with such tiny precious treasures, as I am a simple woman with simple taste, but a lover of details. It is only in these past couple of years that I have unpacked my suitcases and begun to weave together my treasures, creating this company out of the gems of my life, like a story unfolding before my very eyes.
What has always been with me is a love of light and color, manifesting every moment in different forms in the natural world. I have always taken pictures chasing the light across fields, down rivers and into shadows. Wanting to be ever closer to the magnificent beauty of nature, I began to wander from the woods into gardens, which is where I remain. I have made a career of gardening, growing and teaching how to work with the earth and bring forth it’s beauty. From touching the earth I receive all my guidance and strength.
My hands are my most blessed tools, able and eager to spin many mediums ranging from seeds and dirt, to colorful strings and stones, into something beautiful. To be able to create beauty with pieces of earth made alive by light is a perfect union of my greatest loves. Seeds and Stones allows me the great blessing of creation, as well as the ability to work from home pursuing my other passions of growing a little family and homestead.
My studio, built by my husband out of straw and mud, is an enchanted little cottage nestled right into our garden. It is tiny, but perfect for all my tiny treasures and as I work weaving gems, my baby son plays at my feet, wandering in the garden, watching the birds and the wind...I must admit, it really is lovely and lucky to have such a set up.
Now that my life is more grounded and rooted in family as a stay at home mom, I travel less but have begun to discover the wonders of the world right outside our door. The morning light on the garden blooms, and river in the moonlight... my place is what inspires me most. These everyday miracles of overwhelming beauty, around us every moment show me my color pallets & unfurl my designs. I have come to realize that just celebrating and honoring the beauty around us not only humbles us, but heals us, making us celebrate our own inner beauty all the more.
Since the inception of my Jewelry company I have been guided and taught many things about the healing qualities of the gems I work with. I find that often what a gem has to offer us is exactly what we are needing and I love assisting in that process.
You can actually watch people gravitate to the piece with the medicine they need the most. I always hear amazing stories, like one woman picked a Carnelian necklace, enthralled with the stone, she said, "I don't know why I picked this, I usually hate Orange" and I asked, "Are you trying to get pregnant?" half joking, but her face dropped and tears welled up "I am" she said, "How did you know?" Carnelian is a stone of intense creative and fertile power, I was simply saying what I know of Carnelian, but what happened between her and the stone was pure beauty healing magic.
