Shipped on time. Beautiful nursing pads, and I never experienced leak-through. Confession: I wear these all day. One day, I couldn't find my other pads and put them on for a few hours a second day. I know, gross. But still no leak through. Not bad for a Mom who only manages to pump once a day at work! Would be visible slightly under a thin bra, but I always wear one with light padding to work.

About

SelkieMum--a specialty shop for babies and their Mums.

My sister asked me to do a craft fair with her, and I was not warned that once you do a craft fair, unless you sell ALL of your stock, you are probably going to get sucked into a crafting business to sell the rest. :D

That was the start of it all. I had considered Etsy in passing in 2009, but if I hadn't invested all that initial time in making things, I doubt it would have gone anywhere.

There's more: I used to sew quite a bit in jr. high and high school, but then I quit and never meant to do it again, so it is very odd to find myself doing it all the time now. I am artsy and creative, like most etsy sellers, but unlike many, sewing was not a passion that I turned into a business. I have grown to like it as my skills increased with practice and study. I also discovered that, while I do not like wrestling big pieces of fabric into quilts or adult sized clothing, I do enjoy making pretty little things.

My goal with SelkieMum has always been to help pay off our house early and make various home improvements. That would open so many things up to us, including the possibility of my husband working part-time closer to home and part-time in the home, instead of full-time and over-time an hour away. We hope to homeschool, and his participation would add a great deal to that experience, although we'll butt heads ferociously about it plenty of times, I'm sure. We'd like to raise more of our own food. We might like to travel; we might build tiny houses as sanctuaries for those who need it; I might teach overseas again, if we could take the family. The future is wide-open...if it is mortgage-free.

That's the practical passion that fuels SelkieMum, but the creative inspiration is motherhood. I intended my signature item to be baby dresses made with vintage hankies, but they take a long time to make, so I am building up stock with some quicker items first. I love items that make mundane tasks more appealing, that beautify every day life, like colorful nursing pads and cheery coffee cozies. I hope to make more homekeeping specific items, like pretty soap holders and dish-draining mats. The possibilities are endless. :D

Thank you for stopping by and reading a little bit about my shop. See ya'll again soon, as my Southern husband would say.

Welcome to SelkieMum! My goal is to produce attractive items for babies and pampering items for mummas. When I became a mother, I sometimes felt like my personality had been buried in diapers and my creativity lost in sleep-deprivation; any time I found a cute baby/mothering accessory that made me feel like I could be a unique individual and a mother at the same time, I perked up considerably. I want to do that for you, and I want to prove to myself that the talented person I once was still exists.

The lineage of my muse can be traced through my love of old books: homemaking as a virtue (colonial America), homemaking as an art (my beloved Victorians), homemaking as a duty (mid-20th century America, at least by some accounts), and homemaking as a choice and even a luxury (2011). Thus, my interest in beautiful but useful objects that elevate drudgery to joyful pursuit.

I love textiles, especially vintage ones. I enjoy "upcycling" mundane, past their prime objects into something desirable and useful. I know I have created something worth selling when I really want to keep it for myself. I love sewing by hand, but alas, sometimes the machine is necessary. I hope to help my family out with this little hobby--we'll see! Thank you for stopping in.

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy gift cards
Payment
I accept PayPal and I expect payment at the time the order is placed.
Shipping
Shipping prices include packaging costs for all orders and shipping confirmation for domestic orders. I will ship USPS Parcel Post after payment has been received. Insurance/expedited shipping is not figured into the price, but can be added for an additional fee. Tracking is not available on international orders of less than $10 unless you want to upgrade to priority mail. It is too expensive to be practical for very small items; however, if you know of an inexpensive way to do it, let me know!
Refunds and Exchanges
Refund requests must be initiated within two weeks of shipping notification (four weeks for international orders.) I want to keep my customers happy, so I will consider all reasonable requests.
Additional policies and FAQs
All items are handmade; a handmade appearance is part of their charm.

I am more than happy to do custom orders!

All items are made only for their stated purpose. A nursing cover or changing pad should not be used as a blanket, for example, due to the ribbons on them.
