Hello! Welcome to Selkie Studio!

New motto: Why Not!?

Hello, I'm Danielle. This is my store and this is my story.

This shop honestly came about because of a yarn-swap with some friends. I wanted to share with more than one person. I wanted to send everyone a small little something. I wanted it to be something useful and I wanted to make it.

I spent about a week immersed in research regarding how to make stitch markers. I neglected all of my hobbies! I didn't knit, or spin, or play video games, or read. The result of all this effort was something I was proud to say I made and of which all my friends enjoyed.

It occurred to me that I could easily continue to make these. I had tools now, I still had supplies... I'd just need to add some variety! But once I made a million of them for me and all my friends... then what would I do with all these tools and knowledge? Well, I could sell them. People do that, right? I could do it to! Why not!?

So, I reached out to my friend over at TellTaleYarnCo (another awesome etsy store), and she helped me get set up and explained the "how to" and "why for".

I'm still researching for other awesome things I can add to the store. And I can't explain how excited I am to see how this adventure unfolds.

Thank you for sharing in my journey!

Do you make custom case designs?

I am more than willing to work a custom case design in watercolor pencils, crayon, papercraft, marker, pen, or your own design that you send to me.. However, cost for such a thing may be high. It IS based on time and materials.
If this does not deter you, by all means, let's get creative!

What if my stuff breaks?

This has yet to be an issue. I have had no complaints in this regard, however I am human and it is possible for me to make a mistake in the construction of your order.

If this happens to you, please take a picture of the damaged product and contact me with it. I will do my absolute best to replace it. I may be unable to replace it with the exact same colors, but I WILL do my best.

Additionally, depending on the damage, it's possible it can be fixed (this is best applied to issues with products containing components I no longer have in stock). You can send the product back to me with a note and I will fix or replace it and send it back to you. However I can only cover the shipping cost back to you. Shipping to me is your responsibility

Wholesale availability

I will happily fill bulk orders for LYS stores that want to carry my products!

Please contact me and I will give you the wholesale pricing list.

Gift wrapping and packaging

Want to give this as a gift? That's awesome!

I will happily accommodate you. Please note this fact in the note to seller section, or in a communication with me. If you want it actually wrapped up, I can do that too. Gift wrapping is a plain brown with a ribbon and a note tag. Please let me know what the gifting occasion is.

If you want me to include a note from you, please tell me what you'd like it to say.

I always include a personalized note from myself as well.

Sizing details

Typical sizing is as follows:

Cases are 1"x2"

Small size markers will fit UP TO a US7 (4.5mm) needle.
Medium size markers will fit UP TO a US10.5 (6.5mm) needle.
Large size markers will fit UP TO a US15 (10mm) needle.

*please note that, as these are all handmade and the beads vary in sizes, it is possible the markers will only fit up to the size under what is listed. This is also subject to whether or not the needles in question conform to the standards. I try to be as standardized as possible and do try to note in each listing that doesn't conform, exactly what size it actually fits.

International shipping is so MUCH, is there no way around this?

Actually, there IS!

I can ship up to 4 marker sets for a much smaller cost. It is usually around $3.00USD, or less.

How can I do this?
Well, as it turns out, if a package fits in a letter slot and weighs under a certain amount, the cost of shipping it is not as high as that which does not fit in a letter slot. This is how the USPS determines pricing.

If you do not live in the contiguous US, please contact me before placing your order. I will create a custom listing and charge you the shipping to your country.

*Unfortunately I can not include cases in this as they make the package thicker than 3/4". For case purchases, the standard higher cost of shipping applies.

Care instructions

All materials have an arch nemesis. My products are no exception.

Please try to keep your Selkie Studio products away from acetone formulas, and do not soak the stitch markers with your project in water.

I don't know if water will actually affect the bond between the bead and the wire, but anything is possible.
