Me, Myself and I
La creatividad. Está en mi ADN. Mi madre me enseñó a tejer, hacer ganchillo y coser desde muy pequeña, y al poco tiempo, todas mis muñecas Barbie lucían ropa nueva. Para cuando llegué al instituto, compraba telas en la tienda Woolworth's más cercana (que en aquel entonces se llamaba tienda de todo a diez centavos) y confeccionaba vestidos dashiki rápidos para ir a la escuela.
Hace varios años descubrí la alegría y la tranquilidad de la joyería. Investigué mucho, compré materiales, participé en ferias de artesanía maravillosas (y otras no tanto) y me enamoré de combinar piedras... y madera... y hueso... y alambre... y vidrio para crear algo único y hermoso. Mi estilo es sencillo: hago lo que me gusta usar... y he tenido la suerte de atraer a otras personas que comparten mi estilo. Al principio, solía hacer aretes, luego pulseras de cuero y, ocasionalmente, aretes.
Mi joyería está hecha a mano por mí misma en el área metropolitana de Nueva York, y la mayoría de mis materiales los compro a otros vendedores de Etsy. Es mi forma de apoyar a las pequeñas empresas y contribuir a una comunidad que he aprendido a apreciar y respetar.
Creativity. It's in my DNA. My mother taught me to knit, crochet and sew when I was very young and before long, all of my Barbie dolls were sporting new outfits. By the time I reached high school, I was buying fabric from the nearest Woolworth's (which was called a five-and-dime store back in the day) and was sewing up quick dashiki dresses to wear to school.
Several years ago I discovered the joys and zen of jewelrymaking. Did a lot of research, bought some supplies, participated in some wonderful craft shows -- and some not-so-wonderful -- and I fell in love with putting together stones... and wood ...and bone.. and wire ...and glass to create something beautifully unique. My style is simple: I make what I like to wear...and have been fortunate enough to appeal to others who share my vibe. In the beginning, it was mostly earrings, then mostly leather wrap bracelets, and occasionally earrings.
My jewelry is handmade by me, myself and I in the New York metro area, and most of my supplies are purchased from other Etsy sellers. It's my way of helping to support small business and giving back to a community that I have grown to appreciate and respect.
