My Story

I grew up in the bleak and brown landscape of west Texas' high plains, where my surroundings left much to the imagination. I was always a creative child, making masks from paper shopping bags and paper plates, and my favorite past time was coloring with crayons, and putting on shows for imaginary audiences in my room. I had a deep love for theatre, music, and dance. Originally, my dream was to pursue the performing arts and become an actress, but as I matured, I found a deeper calling in healing arts. I trained in massage therapy during my last year of high school, then moved to Austin, TX to work full time as a massage therapist after doing odd retail and management jobs.

During my time there, I studied belly dancing and martial arts, and began performing in a fire dance troupe. It was then I began exploring my love of wand making, costuming, and headdresses. My godfather gifted me a box of feathers, shells, stones, and a piece of driftwood, with a note telling me it was for a smudge wand, and it required assembly on my part. I made my very first fan, and loved the craft so much, that I began making them for my friends as gifts. I would sew my own costumes for improvisational performances with local musical acts and choreographed fire shows. I designed and constructed my first pair of wings, and shortly after, I was invited to dance at a few national and global events.

I also began painting. I had always feared long term projects, and this was the perfect medium to force me to face these fears, and learn what can be accomplished with patience, strategy, and a lot of hours. I had no idea I had it in me, but when I finished my first piece, I was impressed and inspired. I had never thought of myself as an artist, and had often found myself intimidated by the art form, but I kept at it, pushing through the 'this looks like crap' phase, and soon enough, I had a small body of decent paintings.

My love for the healing arts started to intermingle with my creative expressions, giving me a passion and purpose beyond the simple act of making art. Though I started to burn out as a massage therapist, I found that through art, I could still touch people's hearts, and bring positivity and healing into their lives.

After a short while, my winged travels landed me in San Francisco. I became part of an artistic community there, where my talents were well received and encouraged. My paintings were accepted into multiple group exhibitions at large festivals and events, along side many of my art heroes, like Alex Grey and Robert Venosa. I also had the honor of performing at these gatherings, mostly alongside electronic music producers including Emancipator, Shpongle, and Tipper, to name a few. My costume work was picked up by a few major magazine publications, US Elle, Paris Vogue, and the Rolling Stone online magazine.

I opened my Etsy store while living in the Bay Area, and have since relocated to Asheville, NC with my husband, where I spend most of my time making headdresses, fans, and paintings, while working on an online academy for visionary arts, the Visonary Arts Academy.

Recently I have stepped into the role of a teacher, offering workshops on how to make headdresses, and writing a course in sacred geometry for the VAA.

I am grateful for the opportunity Etsy has given me to pursue my art as a career. A good chunk of my bread and butter comes from my sales here, so thank you, to all of my customers. You are why I am able to follow my dreams. I love creating things that can take people into another world, and transform them into fantastic creatures, characters, and avatars. It brings me great joy to do what I love, to bring more beauty in to the world, and have people like you appreciate it so much. Thank you!
