JIM SERRETT
Oil Painter / Fine Artist
Jim Serrett holds degrees from Southern Illinois University and Vincennes University in painting and drawing. He has been an instructor at the college level and worked professionally as a commercial and fine artist, enjoying a career as a pictorial artist producing advertising art, murals, and illustration. These days, Jim concentrates on fine artwork, mainly working in oils and charcoal. Jim and his wife Linda live near Murphysboro Illinois, where they spend their spare time kayaking and hiking the beautiful Southern Illinois forest and waterways.
“I would define my works as realism because I am interested in depicting the subjects I choose to paint, as I see them in nature. I am fascinated by the way things look; painting is for me about seeing. That is, translating three-dimensional form to a two-dimensional surface and creating the illusion of reality with space, depth, and atmosphere from direct observation. It forces me to deeply study and understand the subject before me, that is the art of seeing.
The more I paint – the more I learn – the more I see as an artist.”
Jim is a founding member of Heartland Art Club, and an active member of The Oil Painters of America (OPA), and The National Oil and Acrylic Painters' Society (NOAPS)
