Craftmade mirrors and mirror items according to the tradition, for contemporary indoors
Seval is one of the few Italian artisan realities that still silver glass by hand.
Our story is the story of a child who learnt how to work glass since the age of 8 in Empoli, and once become skilful in it, started the first glassware in his own town, Castelfiorentino. He built a business and a family with whom to grow it. It is the story of his two sons and current owners, who have been working in glass since their twenties, learnt a lot of processing techniques, and gradually specialised in glass silvering. It is the story of dedicated, passionate, well-meant and warm people who have been working hard, exploring, experimenting, refining the traditional silvering technique and creating new distinguishing products both for other businesses, architects, and privates. As the next generation of this story, after having studied and worked in other fields, we're learning the work of our fathers and bringing in our additional skills.
The main techniques involved in producing the mirrors we are selling on Etsy are:
- glass silvering: is obtained by covering the glass back with pure silver. Our silvering is entirely hand made, using the traditional technique and a combination of the chemical elements refined by our family. We respect the natural timing needed for silver to react and settle and carefully choose quantities and chemical agents to achieve the desired result.
- mirrors antiquing: we reproduce an ageing effect on glass that resembles naturally antiqued mirrors. We can give several looks and colors to the antiqued patterns, and the manual technique used is chosen accordingly.
