Frequently asked questions
Why don't you have ORGANIC seeds?
To call something organic, it must be certified by a government body. As a home gardener, I am not interested in bringing the government into my garden. I promise you I will never use pesticides, because I will not eat food that grows in them and would never expect you to, either. All of my seeds are grown using sustainable and environmentally responsible practices.
These are not GMO, right?
Not a chance! My family does not support the big businesses involved in creating genetically modified foods or organisms. I got involved in growing and sharing seeds, because I am passionate about grocery store independence.
How long will these seeds last?
With proper care, you should be able to plant any type of seed for 2 years after purchasing. To store, place them in a plastic zipper bag in a cool, dry place. I keep them in my basement with a dehumidifier in the summer, but any place that does not get above 80 degrees regularly should be just fine. Some seeds last longer than others, with onions and parsnips having the shortest lifespan. I have gotten very low germination with parsnip seeds after a year and very high germination with squash or kale seeds after 5 years. It really just depends on the seed.
What is "open-pollinated"?
These seeds will produce a new generation of seeds that are the exactly the same variety as the parents, as long as it has not been cross-pollinated by another. This way, you can save your own seeds if you decide you like the variety. I only sell open-pollinated seeds.
Are your seeds treated?
No way! I will never use or sell a treated seed. Some of our seeds are dusted with diatomaceous earth, which is natural bug repellent.
