Hello! My name is Laura Nash and I'm the designer at Sew Chic Patterns
With a love and a passion for all things vintage, I create fashion patterns with a modern mix of classic and vintage styling. It all began while earning a BS in Apparel Design from OSU where I concentrated my studies on historic fashion. Now I teach sewing technique and fitting classes through the American Sewing Guild and at my favorite Expo- the Sewing and Stitchery Expo in Puyallup Washington.
You can find me teaching on Craftsy.com. My class is called The Flirty Day Dress, and our project is the Tia dress pattern. I am a Threads Magazine contributor, my most recent article is in issue #180 titled "Pattern Grafting/Mixing Patterns." I am also a special collections designer for Simplicity.
Look for Sew Chic Patterns online, in fine fabric shops and boutiques worldwide, and in the Simplicity Catalog.
Owner, Designer, Patternmaker
Laura Nash has a BS in apparel design with a background in custom sewing, fit, and evening wear. She is also a Craftsy instructor, a Threads Magazine contibutor, and a Special Collections Designer at Simplicity.com
After 30 years of sewing, and being bored with the patterns in the catalog, I decided it was time to set a new goal for growth. In 2003 I graduated with a BS in Apparel Design. While running a custom gown business by the name of Gowns by Laura, I began to build a pattern line. I felt like I must be the only person in the world doing retro styles, which I called "modern vintage", but expected that it would become a popular trend. In 2007 I began producing patterns under the name of Nostalgic in limited quantity, and with a new name of Sew Chic, began full production in 2008.
Being trained in the ways of manufacturing, I follow the same methods used commercially in producing my patterns. I out source some steps such as grading into sizes and fashion illustrations, and also have a part-time seamstress that helps, but I do almost everything else.
Patterns are printed on light, yet sturdy 8 lb paper. It's light enough to see through, but durable to last many uses. It saves on shipping too. Printed materials come in a large re-closeable zip bag, so no stuffing it back into a tiny envelope. Patterns are numbered similar to USA ready to wear, and include all sizes, ranging from 6-18 or 2-18. Check the pattern back for measurement information. Sewing instructions are printed in a booklet, and are written and illustrated in step by step outline form recommending the quickest and most accurate sewing methods with tips for better sewing. If you see something that is missing, or are suffering from confusion, PLEASE convo or email me! I will always respond quickly to evaluate first, if it's my error, and second, help you successfully get through it. I know that Instructions are subjective and cannot always be everything to everyone.
A few patterns are now available in PDF.
