Announcement    Welcoming you to my shop is like welcoming you into my home. I love making quilts, bags and crochet and getting to know my customers in the process. I love that each item is unique and made just for you. In this world of mass-produced everything, it gives me such joy to make individualized and custom-made gifts. A handmade quilt, bag, doll, stuffed animal or toy is something that will last forever. So many hours go into each project that is made just for you and no one else. So much love goes into each project too as I love every minute of it!

My mom was an amazing knitter and spent many years making gorgeous sweaters and blankets for everyone. She taught me to knit, and I eventually picked up crochet. I stopped when I had kids because they took up so much of my time. My mom died in 2009 and I realized I was the last person left in the family who could carry on this lost art. I began knitting and crocheting again while sitting at endless sports events for my kids, waiting in the carpool lane and just about anywhere. Now I spend time everyday making unique crochet items that I know will be loved and cherished.

I specialize in making dolls with disabilities. As a young child, there were no dolls with hearing aids, so I was not able to find any dolls like me. I now work with kids with disabilities and finding unique dolls with a disability is still difficult, so I started making my own. I can do hearing aids, cochlear implants, birth differences, blind, deafblind and many other disabilities. Just message me with what you would like.

Quilting was my first love. I learned to sew as a child and picked up quilting about 26 years ago. Homemade quilts are like a painting and fabric is my canvas. I started making quilted bags for my friends and family so that they could have a mini "quilt" that they could bring everywhere with them. These bags became so popular that I started getting requests for different types of bags and branched out to making more than just totes and backpacks.

I customize bags to fit your needs. You get to pick out the fabric for your bag and tell me what kind of bag you need - for work, for carrying odds and ends or everyday use. Need a bag for a special trip or for a specific hobby? Just ask. I also make custom bags for wheelchairs and walkers and can adapt the bag to fit your needs. Each bag is custom pieced and quilted on a home machine. I use heavy duty hardware for strap closures, zippers and other attachments.

Quilts make a great gift that will last forever. I can make a quilt in any size. Baby quilts and lap quilts are the most versatile and affordable and can be customized with embroidery too. Quilts can take up to 2-8 weeks to make depending on the size and complexity of the quilt. I will work with you to pick a size, pattern and fabrics that work best for your quilt. If you have a specific pattern or idea, I can work with that too.

Any of the fabrics listed on this page can be used for quilts, bags, toys, masks, etc. If you would like to see what fabrics I have available, just message me or go to my Facebook page @Sew Crazy in Vermont. Click on photos, then albums - mask and fabric choices or copy and paste the link below. I have tried to upload pictures of as many fabrics as possible, but I have so many it is not possible to upload all of them at this time. That means if you don't see what you want, ask! I am always adding new fabrics to my store.

The same goes for my crochet items. If you don't see what you want, ask if I can make it. Most of my crochet items are made to order. Crochet takes a lot of time! I can usually make a doll or stuffed animal in 1-2 weeks. Larger items will take longer. If you would like to see more of my crochet items, go to my Facebook page @ElaineMorse (go to my page, click on photos then albums and the creatures from the Morse Zoo or copy and paste this link):

About SewCrazyVermont

Sales 545
On Etsy since 2019

What do you do when you live in Vermont where it snows 9 months of the year? You create to keep from going sew crazy!

I have been sewing and crocheting all my life but learned quilting 25 years ago. Living in Vermont means there are many days when you just want to stay inside and quilting has kept me sane during those long winters. It also means you need color in your world for those dark dreary days and I love color! My quilts are bright and colorful and unique since they are one of a kind. I also love fabric from other countries and will often use Australian or African fabrics in my quilts.

When my mom passed away several years ago, I realized that I was the only one in the family that she taught to knit and crochet. I didn’t want this to end so I started crocheting animals and dolls and all kinds of bright and fun stuff.

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders

I do custom orders so if you don't see what you want, just ask. You can click on contact shop owner or request a custom order.

Sizing details

If you aren't sure what size you should order, please contact me. I am happy to help with sizing and can give you measurements as well as recommendations for the right size. I want your item to fit!

Care instructions

Masks - machine washable and dryer safe.
Crochet items - best to wash in cold water by hand and line dry. They can be washed on gentle in the washing machine but NEVER PUT THEM IN THE DRYER! This will ruin it.
Bags - these are durable! Machine wash and dryer safe!
Quilts - machine washable and dryer safe. However, the more often you you wash it and dry it, the more wear and tear it will cause. I suggest machine wash on gentle and line dry.
Pillows - the cover can be removed and washed. Photos are machine washable. I suggest line drying to prevent wear and tear. The pillow insert can also be washed on gentle. I suggest drying it on gentle then fluffing it back into shape.

Any questions about care of items, please ask!

Gift wrapping and packaging

I do a simple gift wrap (tissue paper and ribbon) at no extra charge. If you would like your item wrapped in wrapping paper, I can do so for $5

Why do crochet items cost so much? Isn't it just a stuffed animal?

Crochet is done entirely by hand. It can take anywhere from 5 to 30 hours to make an item! Each item is made with love and care. I also take care to use the best materials for the longest life. Each crochet item is unique and one of a kind. It is worth the extra cost to give someone such a special and unique gift.

Why do quilts cost so much

A quilt is composted of pieces of fabric that are sewn together in a complex and unique pattern. The quilt is then layered with batting and a backing fabric and quilted together with a unique design to hold the layers together and to add artistry and character to the quilt. The materials (fabric, thread, batting) alone can cost from $50-$300 depending on the size of the quilt and the pattern. Making the pattern, adding the layers, quilting the quilt and then binding the edges can take anywhere from 20-60 hours of labor. A handmade quilt is an item that will last for a lifetime and will be made with the recipient in mind. It is a gift that will last forever.

Custom and personalized orders

I love making crochet dogs, cats, dolls and other animals (unicorns, fairies, dragons) and can customize your order. Crochet is all done by hand so it takes a few weeks to make most items. Message me for more information or look at my listings for examples.
