About

It All Started with A Box of Barbie Dresses

Hi! I am the owner of SewDolledUp81 and I am a seamstress who specializes in doll clothes.
I have ALWAYS loved dolls, and my favorite Christmas gift years ago was a box of handcrafted doll clothes that my grandmother made me for my Barbie dolls. She had knitted sweaters, crocheted fancy dresses, a nurses uniform with wonderful white trim on a navy cape and more. Years later, when my friends had girls, I would gift them with a box of doll clothes for their Barbies or American Girl dolls. (sad to say, neither of my girls liked playing with dolls!!)
Someone said that I should make the clothes to sell, and I started a small business selling AG and Barbie clothes at craft shows. But when my 6th child was born, I just didn't have the time or patience to pursue it any longer.
Fast forward 11 years, and I started sewing for dolls again. And I got enough nerve up to open a shop on etsy in 2014. I remember thinking "wow.. those shops have over 400 sales!! I'd like to have even 50!!" I am still amazed that I now have filled over 1800 orders! I not only make doll clothes, but have even designed a few patterns.
I still sew some for the American Girl dolls, but now the WellieWishers tend to be my main market, along with some collectors dolls. I really enjoy sewing for the smaller dolls. It has been a wonderful way to make new friends, and hopefully to give other little girls the same joy that I had when I opened that box of Barbie dresses!
