About

"Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication"

I first opened my Etsy shop on my Mother's birthday, March 31st, 2013. She would have liked that since she taught me many of my sewing skills.

I retired at a fairly young age, and I just could not sit back and watch the world go by. I dove into the World of Etsy with gusto. I am interested in so many creative endeavors, and my shop reflects that. In the beginning I wanted to do it all. It became clear that I needed to take some time to discover my niche.

I deactivated my shop about two years ago. During that time, I have continued to hone my craft, learned new techniques, and find areas that are especially dear to me. There really aren't enough hours in the day to do all the things I love, but I think I have narrowed it some.

I have discovered that hand stitching with fabric, felt, embroidery floss, beads, buttons, and other embellishments is something I find so rewarding! So you will find banners of all kinds and ornaments made primarily from felt and embellishments.

I also sew felt jewelry such as necklaces and bracelets and will be adding these to my shop. I start with the felt shape and then add embellishments until I am happy. That may take just a few beads strategically placed. Or it make take lace, buttons, and the like that fills the design.

I also plan to offer place mats, table runners, kitchen towels, and pot holders in my shop to feed my newest sewing interest of quilting. When I work with felt, I begin sewing and let the embellishments help me decide where to go with the final product. However, when sewing place mats and table runners, I sketch and sketch and then sketch some more, working to find the combination of colors, sizes, and designs. I often use colored pencils to help me "see" these before I ever cut that first piece of fabric.

I know that to have a good, solid shop it is better for me to concentrate on a few things and do them well. So, I save cross stitching for gifts. I satisfying my interest in making clothing by sewing for my grandchildren...all 6 of them!

The items you see in my shop are the best that I can possibly offer you. Excellent workmanship combined with quality materials with honest, simple design. The quote "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication" from da Vinci speaks volumes for me. While I'm no da Vinci, I appreciate and value the true, deep beauty of simple designs.

If this is your preference, too, you've come to the right place, Sew Down Home.

Sew Down Home is a one woman show. Like my Dad used to say, I am the Chief cook and bottle washer. (Did you know that really is a thing? Google it!) I am always thinking, envisioning, and working to make the final product that appears in my shop.
