The repair looks wonderful, and such a reasonable price. She shipped amazingly fast, too. I now have a go-to person for all my sweater repairs, which is awesome!

About

Taking the Plunge!

Here at SewEco, I use natural materials, an organic design process, and a love for the original. Something one of a kind is waiting for a home! I make everything in my shop myself, and I run the business as a one woman show. Every detail is paid attention to, and you'll receive a special gift when you order from my shop! :)

How did SewEcological begin? This is cautionary tale with a happy ending...sometimes, what you do in your free time is what you end up doing ALL the time! :)

I'd always made all my Christmas gifts. One year it was an amateur attempt at bath salts and soaps, another it was a delectable gift basket of designer cookies, candles another. But in 2009 and 2010, I discovered my neglected sewing machine, unused and unloved! I put it to use.

One of the gifts I made was for myself- I cut up all my mother's old sweaters (which were far too small for me), and made a keepsake blanket out of them. This was the impetus behind my upcycling- a simple blanket. I liked it so much that my closest friends received blankets made out of cashmere sweaters I rescued from the local thrift store. Others received gloves or hats made from the remnants of the sweaters.

Those same friends (thank you Kirsten and Rex!) told me to sell my upcycled creations! They told me all about etsy. So I researched the site, found out that I had a nice little niche, and got to work. Sales were hit and miss for a year or so. Probably due to the fact that I finally figured out how to take a decent photo, it seemed that the shop took off in late 2011.

So much so, that I recently made a very scary decision- I resigned from the teaching profession! As of July 2012, I've traded in teaching high school chemistry and biology for full time independent designing, sewing, blogging and marketing.

I adore working for myself, and am so excited to have taken the plunge into making Etsy and designing my full time work.

My upcycled creations are made with repurposed fabric found in sweaters, clothing, linens, and any other textiles I can get my hands on! All of my offerings are unique, as I never find two alike items in my material hunts.

My process is very organic- it involves staring at a piece for a long time, staring a little more, then chopping up, piecing, embellishing, and sewing together. I make as inspiration strikes me! Some sweaters need to become blankets, while other, more delicate items morph into headbands and wrist warmers with lace and ribbons...

I have enjoyed this process so much while making gifts for family and friends that I've decided to continue making beyond the birthdays and holidays and share my creations with you. Enjoy my articles, as each are made and infused with joy and the process of creativity.

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy gift cards
  • Other Method
Payment
I accept paypal, and direct payment through etsy.
Shipping
I ship as soon as possible! Currently, I usually make it to the post on Monday and Friday. If shipping time will take longer, I will notify you right away! :)

Overages in shipping charges over $1 will be refunded via paypal.

If you would like to upgrade shipping, include delivery confirmation or insurance, please let me know in your purchase comments, and I can quote you a new shipping price.
Refunds and Exchanges
If you are dissatisfied with your one of a kind item, please return it within one week of receiving it in order to receive a full refund, no questions asked. The only exception to this is custom made items- if you request a specific item, and approve of the design, I can't accept returns on items like Harry Potter sweaters with custom embroidery.

If you could, please include a line noting the reason for the return! This helps me create a better description for my next listing!

All return shipping charges are the responsibility of the buyer.
Additional policies and FAQs
Satisfaction guaranteed. If something doesn't quite look the same as you imagined it from the photos, or doesn't quite fit- I welcome your returns- an unhappy customer makes me unhappy!

If something happens to the item during the course of normal wear; i.e. a button falls off, a seam opens- please convo me, and I can work out a deal to return it for a repair.

My policies can be broken when needed (accepting a return long after the return window closed, for example). The rules simply give me something to fall back on, but if I feel that good customer service requires that I bend the rules a bit, I'm not afraid to do that at all.
