About

Hi! My name is Brittany and I run Fiber Huis almost entirely on my own.

My husband Jeff is the main loom maker and runs his own business, www.1UpForge.etsy.com, building art from broken video game parts. He is also the father to our spunky daughter, Marina. She’s the real boss of this operation, telling us when we can work and for how long. She loves to “help” whenever she can.

Lastly, my dad, Mike is also a dedicated loom maker. Not only does he spend long hours selling and installing flooring in his own flooring shop, he will come home late at night to occasionally finish up looms for our next visit to his house. We visit here 1-2 times a week to build looms and make hanging dowels. I know my parents are happy to get to spend so much time with their granddaughter.

The rest of my week is spent replenishing supplies for the weaving kits, answering emails, packing orders and coming up with new product ideas (just to name a few).

Fiber Huis started in 2009 as Sew Nina. It was just a hobby back then, as I experimented with various ideas, from ceramic tile mosaic to hand sewn items.

In 2010 I listed my first weaving kit. I had a few extra when I asked my dad to make me one for a class, when he instead made me three! I decided to list the extras on Etsy, except I didn’t want to just sell a loom, leaving the buyer to figure out how to use it. So I wrote up a simple booklet, included a small amount of yarn and a needle. The 2 kits I had sold really fast. I knew I was on to something. I asked my dad to build some more. Over time he refined the look of the loom to the beautiful craftsmanship you see today.

Mission Statement
To effectively teach the fiber arts and create sustainable art, while maintaining a social and environmental consciousness.

That means I’m equally dedicated to you, the buyer, as I am in the people and products in my supply chain. I want you to not only create beautiful works of art, but also feel good knowing your supplies were made in a sustainable way.

While browsing the shop you’ll find kits, teaching you new skills in fiber art, and supplies to create your own ideas. Stop back often because there’s always something new!
