How we ended up here :)
The road to owning this store has had twists and turns along the way, but nonetheless it lead me here. I believe God has a plan for each one of us. We all have different seasons of life, and different places we are supposed to be. For now Shabby Chic Boutique is where I am supposed to be.
I'm actually a certified teacher, but to be honest after graduating from college I wasn't sure if I wanted to be a teacher anymore. I decided to take a break from wondering what I was supposed to do in life and just worked for my parents' construction company doing secretarial work. I didn't like it all. But they needed my help, I needed a job, and I just love them <3
My family and I have always loved garage sales. I have been going for as long as I can remember, and even before that. It must be in the blood by now, because I love it and seem to go through garage-sale-season-withdraws in the winter :P
Somehow or another we thought up this idea of how great it would be to use the store front of the construction company as a little resale shop, featuring treasures we found in garage sales, and things we made and fixed. Since most of their construction business came from phone calls and not walk in customers, we figured why not?!
We opened the store in May 2013, and now in between helping my customers and refinishing projects, I work on construction estimates and invoices. And you know what? I'm a whole lot happier doing construction paperwork when I get to look up at this beautiful store :)
The store has broadened it's horizons since opening. At first we sold only vintage items that we found from yard sales and items that we refurbished. The local people began asking if we were going to accept consignment. We decided to do it, and I am so happy we did. It feels great selling something for someone and being able to call them & tell them we have a check for them.
After accepting consignment, we began having local artists and other small businesses call us to see if we would sell their items in our store as well. Of course we would! We LOVE locally made things! It is a blessing to be able to help support other local businesses and network in this way.
Shabby Chic Boutique now has multiple shop members in the form of local artist and small businesses. We offer handmade and refinished items. We love it, and we hope you do too!
Being busy in the store and with the construction business makes it more difficult to find time to post items on Etsy as much as we would like to. Therefore, if you are looking for something in particular and can't seem to find it, just send us a message. If we have the item you are looking for in our store, we will create a listing just for you! :)

Hi, I'm Amber. I love all things vintage- from the Andy Griffith Show to Jane Austin novels. My love for vintage has turned into a little boutique in Rockwood, MI, featuring vintage items, consignment, & locally made things.
