"ShãKa Studios" comes from a combination of the names of the owners: Shane and Kandas. Shane has been making American furniture for over 28 years. He started out in his father’s warehouse in Saginaw Michigan, making replacement doors and drawers for his father’s rental units.

He then moved to Texas in 1986 to help his mother renovate a farm house that she just acquired in Bryan Texas. He then built and refinished furniture out of his garage and in 1987 and Wood Designs was born. For seven years he practiced his craft in Bryan Texas.

In 1994 he then moved to Houston were he partnered up with his brothers. Were they did custom built-ins, furniture, and manufactured products for large furniture chains. In 1997 he met his wife Kandas and decided to concentrate on primitive works, and in 1998 ShãKa Studios was created.

ShãKa Studios was one of the first custom furniture companies to appear on the internet. Since then ShãKa Studios has shipped to every state in the continental United States, and a couple countries including Panama and the UK. Shane has remarked on interview once or twice, “There is little bit of me everywhere, even on Broadway.”

In April of 2014 Kandas was diagnose with breast cancer. Knowing that this will change their life and the way they do business. Shane has decided to focus on more of the artistic genre of ShãKa Studios product line. He will also be collaborating and incorporating other local Texas artist to broaden ShãKa Studios portfolio.

Our Mission in 2014 is to offer a wide range of artistic good that are in balance with nature, body and our souls. Not just for the here and now but for the past, present and future.

What are ShãKa Studios influences? The discipline of a Japanese garden and the simplicity of a Shaker. That all things have purpose and all empty spaces have voices.

We sincerely hope you enjoy what ShãKa Studios has to offer.

ShakaStudios' Shop Policies

Welcome

ShãKa Studios and You
Each piece of Shaka Studios’ furniture is collaboration between you, the patron and Shane, the artist. Working together we are able to conceptualize and create, not just a piece of functional furniture, but a work of art. We take the time to hear what you have to say, and together we are able to construct something not just for the here and now, but for tomorrow.

ShaKa Studios Construction Philosophy
We build from scratch. Well, we don’t go out there and cut down the trees ourselves, but we do craft most parts in our studio, with very few exceptions.

Each piece is constructed in accordance of the laws of nature. In the 28 years of crafting and shipping furniture across the country, we found it is better to go with the current than against it.

What does that mean?

Wood, like all natural material breathes in and out (expands and contracts). By working with the laws of nature we are able to create solid wood furniture that can be enjoyed from one coast to the other, be it your Manhattan apartment or your Malibu beach home.

ShaKa Studios Finishes
All Shãka Studios furniture is finished with professional grade finishing material. ShãKa Studios has spent years perfecting our unique proprietary finishing techniques.

ShaKa Studios finishes are museum quality, and “a finish unlike any I have ever seen,” as one client extoled. Our finishes are extremely durable while emitting a feeling of warmth and subtleness. This gives each furniture piece its’ artistic balance and unique personality. There are a wide variety of colors, combinations, and options to choose from, and each piece is tailored to your personality to give you that one of kind piece that was made just for you.

Shaka Studios Furniture Options
Shãka Studios also provides many other options to our beds, TV consoles and media cabinets such as: brass bed bolt covers, four post bed finials, custom hardware, 6 door panels choices, 3 baseboard designs, and our EZ-Access back panels, to name a few. Along with over 25 finish options, this gives you the ability to tailor your furniture especially for you and your unique tastes and needs.

Expected Lead Time & Delivery
At Shãka Studios, we handcraft each furniture piece to order, one at a time, with 28 years of experience, and high standards. We create very detailed and artistic pieces. There are many steps we must precisely follow to ensure our high quality standards. We suggest that you time your furniture order to allow 3 to 4 months lead time.

Shãka Studios decided several years ago that since we create such unique one of kind furniture piece for our customers, the furniture should be delivered with the same care used to create it. Each piece is blanket wrapped and delivered to your home by independent owner-operated delivery services. Your order may be coordinated with others headed to the same region of the country. This may or may not hasten, or slightly delay, your order. Building schedules and delivery schedules are seasonal. Please feel free to call 281-826-2337, or send a convo regarding accurate and up to date lead times.

Our Mission is to offer a wide range of artistic goods that are in balance with nature, body and our souls. Not just for the here and now, but for the past, present and future.

We sincerely hope you enjoy all that ShãKa Studios has to offer.

This warranty does not include damage caused by abuse or mishandling by the shipper, retailer or consumer. As with all finishes, some fading or color change, such as “yellowing” may occur. This is a natural characteristic of wood furnishings and is not considered a defect. This effect can be intensified with exposure to sunlight. Over exposure to water can result in damage to the product. Chemical liquids like nail polish remover or medicines may damage the product. Our finishes are hand distressed to achieve a more authentic appearance. Small pinholes, rasp marks, indentations and other distinctive marks are not considered defects and are normal characteristics of our unique finish. It is a normal characteristic of wood to have variations in coloration, grain pattern, and other markings that occur naturally as trees grow. Such is the beauty of real wood furniture. No two pieces will be exactly alike. Constant exposure to moisture, humidity and temperature changes can cause slight shrinking, swelling and cracking, which are natural characteristics of wood furnishings.

This warranty also excludes any product with a custom finish and/or buyer's remorse. To ensure your complete satisfication with your purchase, please order finish samples prior to selecting your finish.

Wood Designs, Inc. reserves the right to make changes or improvements to its products without incurring any obligation to similarly alter products previously purchased.
