The whetstone I received was as pictured but its function as a whetstone is terrible. The igneous rock I received is a type of lava rock with big holes that the blades apex gets caught in damaging the edge. The stone doesn’t have much natural abrasive properties as it’s a very slow cutting stone. These types of lava stones are also not very consistent either with the abrasives and some area of the stone leave a bigger scratch pattern than other parts of the stone. These types stone burnished faster than it was able to cut steel. With a DMT nagura I was able to get the stone to cut again using slurry and refreshing the abrasive but the stone is too slow to be useful when I reached out to the seller they apologized for the stone not working out for me and I told him that the stone would end up being a nice conversation piece

I've always struggled to sharpen anything. I assumed I sucked and that may partially have been the case. After ordering this sharpening stone I am beyond ecstatic. It may sound stupid to like a sharpening stone so much but it's an amazingly unique and quality product. It would make an amazing piece for someone who cutthroat shaves. It would be perfect for beginners as well. I dont know Scot the craftsman who makes these this is purely a reflection of the kick a$$ product he creates. If your looking for a stone order one of these you will not be disappointed.
