When I was a kid, I had a favourite t-shirt that I wore all the time. My sunny yellow t-shirt read “It doesn’t take much to make me happy.”

Whether I knew it at the time or not, this has become my life’s motto.

When I grew up, I studied engineering and later took on the very serious job of being a math and physics teacher for high school students. Though I loved to see the students faces light up when something clicked, when the opportunity came to make a conscious change that would invite a simpler life, I embraced it.

My family chose to relocate from the Lower Mainland of BC to the slower pace of Vancouver Island. In Victoria, my husband and I have adjusted to life on one income, and settled in to the heartbeat of family life with our young son. I have been able to focus my attention on my surroundings – creating a serene living space indoors and devoting time to my garden sanctuary. I have come to realize that creating spaces that bloom with peace, whimsy and beauty brings me boundless joy.

I developed my passion for creating stained glass art somewhat by accident. In trying to inspire my husband to take up a hobby, I discovered how much I enjoyed working with this medium. Isn’t it funny how our intentions for others are so often rooted in what we need for ourselves?

I had always envisioned myself creating art with my own hands and sharing my pieces at craft fairs and markets. Something about connecting with people and making objects that make them smile has always been a pleasure. Creating a business out of my lifelong love for spreading joy to others has amplified my own happiness.

My yellow t-shirt may be much too small for me now, but the message still fits. It doesn’t take much to make me happy.
