I love wool and bicycles!

I started making cycling caps in 2004 just for fun. I am a cyclist and I was inspired by the old black and white photos of riders climbing mountain passes and rambling through the European countryside on fixed gear bikes. I wanted to dress like a cyclist in the early 1900's when bikes were new, exciting modes of transportation that allowed one to travel far from home and explore the landscape.
I have a love of wool. Most of this early cycling apparel was wool. It is the original fabric for outdoors gear worn by hunters, explorers, mountaineers, cyclists, skiers, etc. It is ancient.
In 2010 my wife and I purchased a small flock of Shetland sheep to raise for wool. I do the shearing, hoof trimming and herding from pasture to pasture while my wife spins and knits the wool. Although I don't use this wool to make my own caps with, it gives me a greater appreciation and understanding of the process of turning a fleece into a wearable garment.
When I first started my intention was to create various cycling apparel. Over the years I focused my energy on caps as a simple yet essential piece of cycling gear that I could produce locally from salvaged thrift store garments.
I started my Etsy shop in 2012 after many years of selling on a clunky, homemade webstore. Thank god for Etsy. It's made my online selling experience way easier.

Thanks for checking out my shop. Have a look around and let me know if you have any questions. I have been making a line of caps for cyclists since 2004. All of my caps are created from recycled or what some call upcycled wool and cotton garments. What may have once been grandpa's stylish tweed sport coat has now been transformed into a stylish tweed cycling cap. Why does a cyclist need a cap? Some cyclists like to wear a wool cap in the winter to keep the ears and head warm and to keep rain or snow out of the eyes. Some cyclists like light wool or cotton caps in summer to sop up the sweat, keep the hair back or shield the eyes from the glaring sun. Some just want to be fashionable and for all of these reasons, I make cycling caps.
